Dasun Shanaka:
We had a great start and an excellent finish, but we stalled out in the middle overs. We may have missed 15 to 20 runs, in my opinion.
Fast bowlers didn’t practice enough and are returning from injuries. That is what caused them to become hurt.
Due to the new ball’s spongy bounce, it was difficult. Even Finch had trouble with the novel ball. In the latter part, they played quite well.
After being called in to bat first, Sri Lanka got off to a good start. Up until the 10th over, the innings were progressing rather smoothly, but a mini-collapse caused Sri Lanka to lose some direction.
Sri Lanka was able to reach a good total thanks to some powerful hits from Chamika Karunaratne and Charith Asalanka.
A number of the bowlers did go the distance in the final few overs, but Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Starc, and Ashton Agar all kept things close and took wickets as well, assuring the break of momentum.
In response, Australia found itself a little bit chasing the game, but thanks to their middle order’s batting skills, a few players were able to get those boundaries that truly broke the back of the opposition.
Aaron Finch:
I’m overjoyed. My performance was unusually bad. I failed to strike the ball. We used a good approach with the bat. It was crucial to prepare for the back end of the inning because it was seaming a long way there.
If I had turned it on sooner, it would have been unfortunate. Overall, quite clinical. It was challenging for them to bowl the length. It’s difficult to stand and deliver on such a wide space. Nice to have both points.
It was a really exceptional inning. (Stoinis) The most important thing is to declare that intention. In T20 cricket, having that presence of the crease when you come out to bat is half the battle won.
Australia won with 21 balls left. Chasing a tricky score, the defending champions didn’t get off to an excellent start.
They didn’t hit a single boundary in 7 overs and the score read 38/1 with both the batters – Finch and Marsh – struggling to get the timing right. Wanindu Hasaranga, the Sri Lanka’s best bowler of the tournament was introduced into the attack and the Islanders would have been the happier side as the lone left-hander in the top order also had been removed. He admitted 15 runs off his opening over.
