Two key officials in the Ukrainian administration have been placed on administrative leave after their capacity for leadership was questioned. Ukraine suspends security chief
Iryna Venediktova, the prosecutor general, and Ivan Bakanov, the strong SBU or State Security Service chief who were longtime allies of the Ukrainian president, are the two high-ranking officials who have been placed on administrative leave. Numerous employees of both departments, according to Zelensky, are under suspicion of treason. Ivan Bakanov and Iryna Venediktova were both suspended on Sunday by President Zelenskyy. The authorities have not yet addressed their suspension, though.Â
Regarding the treason and collaboration activities of personnel of prosecutor’s offices, pretrial investigation bodies, and other law enforcement organizations, 651 criminal proceedings have been registered. Everyone who joined them in a criminal organization that served the Russian Federation’s objectives will likewise be held accountable. It focuses on various details of cooperation with the Russian special services as well as the disclosure of secret information to the enemy.
After conducting official investigations, the President will determine whether to submit the proper motion to the parliament.
Many Ukrainians won’t be shocked to learn that Moscow attempted to compromise their security services and prosecutor’s office. The Federal security service(FSB) of Russia has a long history of attempting to change things from inside. All intelligence services do this, in fact. They operate in this way. The magnitude of their success, which appeared to undermine Ukraine’s defenses at a key time, may be even more shocking. The very vital city of Kherson collapsed in a matter of days, despite the fact that bridges that should have been destroyed were ostensibly left standing.
The concern is that a startling number of corrupt Ukrainian officers and bureaucrats contributed to Russia’s offensive while leaving Ukraine vulnerable. Iryna Venediktova and Ivan Bakanov are not being suspected of betraying their nations, but rather of leading organizations where others were in charge. They were both fired from their jobs as a result.
In fact, there was apparently a purge of FSB officers soon after the start of the war who were thought to be supporting Ukraine or at the very least sympathetic to their cause.
