The Swiss Open 2022 started on March 22, two days after the conclusion of the All England Open Badminton Championships on March 20. Day 3 of Swiss Open brought mixed results from the Indian shuttlers.
Men’s Singles Event
Kidambi Srikanth beat 20 year old Christo Popov of France in a three set match (13-21, 25-23, 21-11) with a neck to neck second set that Srikanth secured 25-23. Srikanth will be facing Antonsen on Friday.
H.S. Prannoy and Sameer Verma also won against their respective opponents in three set matches. Sameer Verma will be playing against A.S. Ginting in the next round.
Victor Axelsen gave walkover to Parupalli Kashyap. Parupalli will be facing H.S Prannoy in the next round.
All England and German Open runner-up Lakshya Sen had withdrawn from the tournament.
Women’s Singles Event
Olympic medallist and former World Champion P.V Sindhu beat Turkish badminton player Yigit in a straight set match(21-19, 21-14).
Chaliha and Olympic bronze medallist Saina Nehwal both bowed out of the third round in the Swiss Open. While Saina played a three set match(21-17, 13-21, 13-21), Chaliha lost in straight set.
Doubles Event
Ashwini Ponnappa and N Sikki Reddy beat a Swiss duo in a straight set match(21-15, 21-16)
Rankireddy and Shetty lost to an Indonesian pair in a straight set match(19-20, 20-22) after they defeated the All England Champion in the last round.
