Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare as well as Chemicals and Fertilizer Minister addressed the second G20 Health Ministers Meeting held in Yogyakarta, Indonesia.
The G20 Health Summit will be hosted by India in 2024.
The key points in this session to make improvements in the healthcare sector were:
- Improving Global Health Architecture: At the G20 Health Summit held in Indonesia, one of the main focus points was to improve the Global Health Architecture by making it more resilient and more responsive as well as inclusive.
- Working on pandemic prevention and preparedness: Being responsive to global health emergencies was discussed, along with working on actions to prevent pandemics in the future. A Pandemic Fund has been launched under the Health Track so that a fit-for-purpose healthcare system is more viable.
- FIF (Financial Intermediary Fund): The Covid pandemic brought forth the shortcoming of the present healthcare system, so working on them to have a better one was discussed. The proposal included having a joint financial and health task force and also having a Financial Intermediary Fund.
- Collaborative research on a global level: Working together on a global level on medical research as well as ways to ensure easily accessible vaccines were brought to the front. This would ensure that health emergencies are tackled in a better fashion in the future.
- Easy access to medical equipment: Global collaboration to ensure seamless mobility of medical goods and people who are in urgent need of medical help. Concepts like sustainable financing were discussed so that a fair all-inclusive health architecture is available to all.
- The problem of Tuberculosis in the country: In India, as of 2020, 2.4 million people were infected with TB. Under the National TB Elimination Programme, the goal is to end the epidemic of Tuberculosis by 2025. The solution to such problems was discussed along with implementing the One Health Initiative.
