The Telangana government is all set to build solar power plants, which will soon relieve the financial burden of electricity bills for more government-run schools. A total of 5.267 schools will be powered by solar energy, comprising 4,600 government and local authority high schools, 475 Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs), and 192 Model Schools.
Each of the selected government and local body high schools is slated to receive a 5-kilowatt solar power plant, while the KGBVs and Model Schools, which are residential institutions with higher electricity needs, would receive a 10-kilowatt plant.
A thorough project report has been created for this by the school education department at an anticipated cost of Rs 80,000 per kilowatt. The Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation is most likely to carry out the program, which is anticipated to cost Rs 283 crore.
Solar Power has been built already in some schools in Telangana
As part of the ‘Manu Ooru- Mana Badi/ Mana Basti Mana Badi’ plan, the government has already solar-powered 1,521 government and local bodies in schools in 12 districts. 3072 kW of power are currently being produced by these 2-KW solar power plants, which were installed at a cost of Rs 32 crore. More than 1,200 of these solar power plants will now have a 5-kilowatt capacity.
As part of the Manu Ooru- Mana Badi Plan, the government schools underwent renovations and received the necessary infrastructure, such as computer labs, libraries, and science labs, as well as technological devices like digital interactive flat panels.
As a result, there has been an increase in electricity use, resulting in high utility costs. In this situation, the government has chosen to exclude schools from paying electricity costs. Additionally, the extra solar energy produced over the holidays will be immediately transmitted to the grid, and schools will receive payments based on the number of units transferred.
Not only schools, but houses also have solar power
Every residence in Mukhra (K) village has been selected to get a free solar power plant as part of a pilot project by Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation Limited (TSREDCO).
TSREDCO’s district manager, Livarthi, claims that the village was picked to carry out the trial initiative. Each household will receive a subsided solar power plant as part of the scheme. The recipients would be able to lower their electricity expenses with the help of the plant. The subsided facility is available to self-help group members.
A 2-kilowatt pant would cost Rs 1,44,000, and a 3-kilowatt plant would cost Rs 2,06,400, according to corporation authorities. Beneficiaries are eligible for subsidies of Rs 29,176 for 2 KW plants and Rs 43,764 for 3 KW plants. Loans will be made available to them to aid with the purchase of the plants. There are 220 homes in Mukhra
Recently, Mukhra (K) village in Echoda Mandal became Telangana’s first settlement to have 100 percent insurance coverage. At the national level, it was awarded the 2024 Gramme Urja Swaraj Vishesh prize. At the national panchayat awards ceremony 2021-2022, it took home three prizes, held on the grounds of Hyderabad’s Prof. Jayashankar Telangana State Agriculture University.
What is the benefit of solar power energy?
Solar power is a cost-effective, environmentally friendly, and sustainable energy source. Therefore, this environmentally friendly action by the government is anticipated to significantly lower the cost of energy consumption and also raise awareness about the importance of using green energy in the modern world.
The development of solar PV power plants is anticipated to assist schools generate income while also lowering their energy costs. The extra solar energy produced in the schools will be fed into the electrical grid, assisting in the creation of money.
