Telangana’s finance minister, Harish Rao, has written to the centre requesting that funds totaling 900 crores be released, which had been pending for some time. In a letter to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, he demanded that Rs 900 crore be released immediately to develop backward districts under Section 94 (2) of the Bifurcation Act.
According to the letter to the centre, the centre has failed to pay the pending amounts, and Harish Rao has requested that Rs 495.20 crore be released under centrally sponsored initiatives given to the state of Andhra Pradesh. Harish claimed that the centre should select the most suitable measures and release Rs 210 crore under the IGST to the state, as proposed by the finance commissions.
According to the proposals of the 15th Finance Commission, the centre should provide Rs 723 crore as a special grant to the state to compensate the loss between the fiscal years 2020-21 and 2019-20. Without rejecting the money, the centre should transfer them to the state.
He also demanded Nirmala to provide Rs 723 crore to the state following GST rules and requested a five-year extension from the financial years 2021-22.
He claimed that the state government had provided all of the required information in order to receive funds for local governments, which the centre had previously denied. He called on the government to take steps to allocate Rs 817.61 crore for the development of local bodies, as recommended by the 14th Finance Commission.
In addition, the minister requested that the centre grant Rs 24,205 crore for the state’s Mission Bhagiratha and Mission Kakatiya programs, as recommended by Niti Ayog.
Harish was hopeful that Nirmala would order the concerned officials to take action and give the grants and funds to the state that already had completed the procedures of submitting the documentation.
