On January 26, 2023, President Droupadi Murmu will lead the Nation in celebrating Republic Day from Kartavya Path in New Delhi.
As a continuation of last year’s celebrations of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Republic Day celebrations this year will be characterized by zeal, enthusiasm, patriotic fervor, and ‘Jan Bhagidari’, as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
On January 26, 2024, President Droupadi Murmu will lead the Nation in celebrating Republic Day from Kartavya Path in New Delhi.
Abdel Fattah El-Sisi of Egypt will be the parade’s, Chief Guest.
During the weeklong celebration, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose’s birthday is commemorated. New Delhi organized ‘Aadi Shaurya – Parv Parakram ka’ on 23 and 24 January to mark the occasion.
In the end, the events will culminate on Martyrs’ Day, the 30th of January.
At the National War Memorial, a dance group called Vande Bharatam will perform, Veer Gatha 2.0 participants will share stories of bravery, school bands will perform melodious music, the first-ever e-invitations will be sent, drone shows will take place, and a 3-D anamorphic projection will be displayed.
The Parade
Republic Day will mark a unique mix of military prowess and cultural diversity. It will showcase India’s indigenous capabilities, Nari Shakti, and the emergence of a “New India“.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the National War Memorial before the parade ceremony. He will set a wreath on behalf of the nation as a sorrowful homage to the fallen soldiers.
The Prime Minister will thereafter watch the parade from the saluting dais at Kartavya Path with other dignitaries.
The National Anthem will be played after the National Anthem, which will be preceded by a thunderous 21-gun salute, as is customary. The 21-gun salute will be fired by 105-mm Indian Field Guns, one of several firsts.
It takes the place of the old 25-pounder cannon as a symbol of the expanding “Aatmanirbharta” in defence. The crowd gathered at Kartavya Path will be showered with flower petals by four 105 Helicopter Unit Mi-17 1V/V5 helicopters.
The President will give the opening salute before the procession begins. Lieutenant General Dhiraj Seth, an Army officer of the second generation and recipient of the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, will serve as the parade’s commander. The Parade Second-in-Command will be Major General Bhavnish Kumar, Chief of Staff for the HQ Delhi Area.
Following are the deserving recipients of the highest bravery medals.
They include the Param Vir Chakra and Ashok Chakra recipients. The recipients of the Param Vir Chakra, Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Bana Singh of the 8 JAK LI, Subedar Major (Honorary Captain) Yogendra Singh Yadav of the 18 Grenadiers, Subedar (Honorary Lieutenant) Sanjay Kumar of the 13 JAK Rifles, and the Ashok Chakra, Major General CA Pithawalla (Retd), Colonel D Sreeram Kumar, and Lieutenant Colonel
The Ashok Chakra is given for acts of valour and self-sacrifice that are comparable to the Param Vir Chakra but not in the face of the enemy. The Param Vir Chakra is given for the most egregious act of courage and self-sacrifice in the face of the enemy.
Egyptian contingent
The joint Band and Marching contingent of the Egyptian Armed Forces, under the command of Colonel Mahmoud Mohamed Abdel Fattah El Kharasawy, will march along the Kartavya Path for the first time. 144 troops, who will represent the various divisions of the Egyptian Armed Forces, will make up the contingent.
Indian Army Contingents
The inaugural uniformed contingent of the 61 Cavalry will be led by Captain Raizada Shaurya Bali. The 61 Cavalry is the only active horse cavalry regiment in the world because to the unification of all “State Horse Units.”
The Indian Army will be represented by a Mounted Column of 61 Cavalry, nine Mechanized Columns, six Marching Contingents, and a Fly-past by Advanced Light Helicopters (ALH) of the Army Aviation Corps. The Main Battle Tank ARJUN, the NAG Missile System (NAMIS), the Infantry Combat Vehicle of BMP-2 SARATH, the Quick Reaction Fighting Vehicle, the K-9 Vajra-tracked Self-Propelled Howitzer Gun, the BrahMos missile, the 10m Short Span Bridge, the Mobile Microwave Node & Mobile Network Center, and the AKASH will be the main attractions in the mechanised columns (New Generation Equipment).
