The Argentine Captain Lionel Messi Joins PSG



On the 6th of August, the Barcelona Club announced that despite both FC Barcelona and Messi having reached an agreement, both the parties’ intention is clear to signing a new contract.

Still, it cannot happen because of financial and structural obligations; they also mentioned that both the parties regret that their relationship is ending. 

The 34-year-old Argentina Captain with a more than two-decade with FC Barcelona said goodbye to the club in a tearful farewell on Friday.

He has agreed to the deal in principle as a free agent. He is expected to earn in the region 35 million Euros yearly in salary.

Owned by the Qatar Sports Investments, which the Qatar government reportedly owns, PSG had paid 222 million euros to bring Neymar from Barcelona. 

The Contract of Messi and PSG

Lionel Messi, The Argentinian forward who left Barcelona after 21 years last week, has signed Paris Saint-German, with a two-year contract with the option of an additional year, the French club announced on Tuesday. 

Messi, 34, will wear the number 30 with which he had begun his professional career at Barca.

The completion of his move closes following the announcement of Messi last Thursday that he would be leaving Barcelona, the club he has represented for the entirety of his 17-year of his professional career.

 PSG see Lionel as the missing piece in their jigsaw puzzle to have a great chase the Champions League for the trophy they want the most.

Barcelona is still in the process of coming to terms with the departure of their greatest ever player, who said goodbye to his club of two decades at a tearful news conference breaking the heart of the Messi-Barca Fans this Sunday. 

Barcelona, carrying debts of 1.2 billion euros ($1.41 billion), hasn’t registered new signings because of their financial issues. 

With Manchester City having ruled themselves out, PSG was the only club that could afford a deal worth 35 million euros ($41 million) a year.

Messi leaves Barcelona with 672 goals in 778 appearances, which is a record tally for one club. 

Messi grabbed 35 trophies at the Camp Nou after joining Barca aged 13, but his last appearance was a damp squib: a 2-1 home defeat behind closed doors against Celta Vigo in May.

Messi’s trophy haul includes four Champions Leagues and 10 La Liga titles.

The PSG has already got in veteran Spanish defender Sergio Ramos from Real Madrid, the Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, the Star player of Euro 2020.

They have signed Georginio Wijnaldum from Liverpool, the Netherlands’ midfielder from Barcelona, and spent 60 million euros on Inter Milan right-back Achraf Hakimi, who scored on his PSG league debut at the weekend.

Messi could be unveiled to supporters on Saturday when PSG host Strasbourg and a whole house of nearly 48,000 will be allowed for the first time since the coronavirus pandemic. 

Messi’s say on Joining PSG

“I am excited to begin a new chapter of my career at Paris Saint-Germain,” he said in a statement on the club’s official website.

“Everything about the club matches my football ambitions,” Messi said. The PSG fans were given a hero’s welcome when he arrived in the Capital of France on Tuesday, added.
