According to some sources in the New York City police department, five people were shot at a subway stop in Brooklyn early Tuesday morning.

Firefighters responding to reports of smoke at the 36th Street station in the Sunset Park neighborhood discovered many victims who had been shot and undetonated devices, according to a representative for the New York City Fire Department. The fire service said that 13 persons were hurt, but did not provide any further information on the nature of those injuries.

Initial intelligence, according to various law enforcement sources briefed on the inquiry, indicated that a suspect fled the scene while wearing a work vest and a gas mask.

A photograph taken at the incident showed personnel ministering to bloodied passengers who were laying on the station’s ground level. Further information could not be obtained at the time of publication. During the morning rush hour, trains to and from that station were experiencing delays.

More information was not immediately available from the office of New York City Mayor Eric Adams. The mayor’s mansion was the scene of a briefing on Adams on Tuesday morning, according to a representative for the mayor.

Officials from the New York City Police Department (NYPD), who are investigating the incident, have stated that no live explosive devices were discovered at the location of the Brooklyn subway incident following early searches.

According to the news agency Reuters, US Attorney General Merrick Garland has gotten a preliminary briefing and is keeping an eye on the situation in the country.
