At one extreme, crimes such as treason, sedition, and terrorism are political due to the fact that they signify a direct undertaking to the authorities in power. Espionage is generally viewed as a political crime.
In India, most people are interested in politics and have an opinion about politics. Since freedom, India has been a democratic country, and every five years, elections take place for the Lower House of Parliament. Every year, many state government elections take place. The government uses a lot of public money for these elections through taxes.
In return, they get criminal leaders as their leaders. Almost 50% of MPs have criminal backgrounds. Who is making the rules for common people? Until the 80s, politics was different. Criminals used to help politicians, but later on, they decided to come ahead and join politics and be the leaders, not the followers. The 80s were the
Politics is being criminalized in this day and age. Currently, 68% of the members of the Bihar state assembly are facing criminal charges.
After criminalization, politics has become one of the biggest threats to society. It has massive effects on the jurisdiction also.
Since the beginning, there has been a linkage between politics and criminals, but after the direct criminalization of politics, it has become more dangerous. Now voters are scared of the right person because if they do not vote for them, they will face the consequences of the post-election. People get murdered or threatened.
Many politicians have been exposed to terror connections. Lots of politicians have been arrested for rape and murder. In India, people keep saying politics is not for common people; only the rich and criminals can win elections nowadays. They always manipulate the administration and even the police, who are influenced by them and follow their orders without taking action easily.
Scams are one of the darkest sides of politics. Till now, Indians have seen lots of scams like 2G spectrum, coal India scam, Hawala scandal, Bofors scam, and many more. In these scams, many have been sentenced by the court and are still active in politics.
As for public opinion nowadays, politics is not a common thing because elections have become a money-laundering market. You need crores of crores to win an election. For this, not only politicians are responsible, but voters are also. Because voters also take money to vote for them.
They give justification for it by saying that, anyway, no one is going to work for them, so they take the money. A common man doesn’t have crores of crores to fight for an election, so criminals come ahead to take places because they have lots of black money to invest in politics to win an election.
As previously mentioned, there are two kinds of criminals in politics: one is the Mafia, which plays an indirect role in politics. They play their roles behind the scenes. But the second one is directly in government and they are elected criminals. Those are the “robin hoods” of society.
Many politicians have changed the game by becoming criminals after rising to the top of politics, and they have done a lot for the common man who can’t reach out and raise their voices. Many are facing charges of violating the common peaceful law of rallies, but many are facing serious charges like rape, murder, sexual assault, and illegal weapon arm laws.
They get bail because, indirectly, they have control over the judiciary and they have lots of money to hire the best layer in the country. People are hoping to see a change in the future. The Lokpal bill is against this criminalization of politics, but it is not able to pass in Parliament because how can you expect a criminal to pass a bill against criminals?
