The Afghan Taliban recently celebrated their two years of government on the 15th of August. The Taliban took control of Afghanistan on the same day two years back. Well for the people of Afghanistan, the revival of the Taliban will not be a new concept or model. They have faced this before as well, this is a continuation of the country’s 42 years of instability.
It started back then when the Soviets annexed Afghanistan to make it a puppet state, the tribes revolted with their groups and guerilla techniques. Najibullah’s pro-communist government was toppled as the soviet left the country in the late 80s. Mujahideen leaders started to run the capital and the country. Najibullah was blocked for four 4 years and was refuge in a UN compound and eventually was executed.
The Taliban is an orthodox Afghan student warrior wing from various religious seminar groups. It was then back in 1997-98 when it gained control of the whole country and horror was seen.
The relationship with its longtime ally is at its lowest point since the time it came back in 2021, Islamabad has blamed Kabul rigorously for the deadly attacks and instability in the border area. In a recent event, 54 were killed in a suicide bombing attack a few weeks back.
Strains and Taliban
Bilawal Bhutto the former foreign minister has slashed the Taliban claims and extended support to the country and confirmed that the country will act under international law to defend itself.
Pakistan army chief General Asim Munir condemned the attack and also mentioned that the Afghan government is deviating from the 2020 Doha Peace Agreement.
In the statement, the Taliban government spokesperson has assured that the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan is not in favour of any attack in Pakistan and rather has a firm belief to not allow any of the extremist groups to rule and use their soil but targeted the Pakistan government rather than not able to control their internal situation.
According to the media officials, the prince of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has seen such clashes more than 250 times in this year itself.
Pakistan also has a problem in Balochistan, Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) is knocking the army and police now and then. Pakistan’s headache is Tehreek-e-Taliban-e-Pakistan (TTP) which was formed in 2007 and was an ideological ally of the Afghan Taliban as well. Although it does not operate under the Taliban but has a strong ground in the Khyber, Pashtun area and the Durand line.
The Talks
According to the defence expert, the attack in Bajaur would rather increase the tensions between the countries. More than 90 per cent of the recent attacks involved the TTP role.
ISKP Islamic State of Khorasan Province is continuing to gain more ground in the tribal areas. There were discussions among the officials this year one was in February and the other was in May has not resulted in anything affirmative.
Pakistan is eyeing support from the United States, but they seem to be not interested, rather it seems that the USA has believed that it is an internal matter of Pakistan and interestingly there was no delegation from Pakistan when the meets were going on in Doha.
According to the officials, the official has discussed the matters of regional security and defence cooperation with Kabul peacefully, but it is the Taliban who seems to be not interested much in this.
On 15th August the security was tight, the fighters and volunteers gathered on the lanes and roads, huge mass rallies carrying soldiers and children waving the particular flag. Well, one cannot sense that everything is fine in the country. There have been many restrictions on women and children especially, human rights rather than crying in the corner. Journalists are nowhere free to be seen, detention of media workers and other social activists.
Interestingly according to UN Reports, the Taliban has worked efficiently against corruption and banned narcotics cultivation.
