The Guru Gobind Singh Sports College in Lucknow, the Chhatrasal Stadium in Delhi, and the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai have been designated as KICEs after the respective state governments made the proposals.
Total KICEs:
The total number of KICEs now stands at 27 across 26 States and Union Territories. With a vision to make India one of the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence, we aim to provide the boxing contestants with world-class specialised training.
The centres will also have a High-performance Manager to ensure the quality of sports science input and performance management. The sports ministry has upgraded three new existing sports facilities as Khelo India Sports Centre of Excellence (KISCE).Â
Uttar Pradesh said the name of Guru Gobind Singh Sports College. It is the primary training centre of the state, having facilities for three disciplines of Hockey, Athletics and Badminton. The three disciplines are in order of priority under the state’s ‘One State One Game’ rule.
Similarly, the Delhi government has said that the Chhatarasal Stadium, a renowned hub of wrestling in the national capital, has recently produced an Olympics silver medallist in the form of Ravi Dahiya, to focus on the disciplines of Wrestling, Athlete and Boxing.Â
JLN Stadium in Chennai:
The sports complex is also centrally located. Meanwhile, the JLN Stadium in Chennai, has been said by the Tamil Nadu government to focus on the sports disciplines of Table Tennis, Fencing and Athletics. “It is being revered by the Tamil Nadu government to be one of the best centres in the States with sports science facilities like Hydrotherapy and others, besides accommodating adequate human resources. Â
“With a vision to make India one of the top 10 countries in rural India, the Khelo India State Centre of Excellence will ensure that boxing contestants proficient in a certain sports Cn be given the world-class specialised training, and these centres becomes the best facilities in the country to train boxing contestants in the priority sports for which they have been earmarked,” taken from the statement from Sports Authority of India (SAI).
According to the Sports Authority of India, the assistance provided by the Sports Ministry shall be in the form of bridging the gaps in sports equipment, high-performance managers, coaches, sports scientists, technical support and so on.
Union Territories on KISCE:
 The Centres will also have a high-performance manager to ensure the quality of sports science input and performance management. The setting up of the KISCE will also help broad base talent identification since the states, and Union Territories will also identify and develop talent in each sport, for which funding is received.
Some of the country’s sports facilities, including venues hosting events and training centres, are named after former sportspersons. This has often led to a debate on whether enough is being done to keep their achievements in the public notice.
On Sunday, the Sports Ministry said it has decided to name all the upcoming and upgraded facilities of the Sports Authority of India (SAI) after renowned boxing contestants who have brought accolades for the country.

 The initiative is meant to honour the former sports contestants, the Sports Association of India said in a press conference.
In the first leg, the newly built air-conditioned wrestling hall and the learners swimming pool in the National Centre of Excellence (NCOE) in Lucknow, the 100 bedded boxing contestants guest house in National Centre of Excellence (NCOE), the multi-purpose hall in National Centre of Excellence in Sonipat, as well as Sports Association of India’s training centre in Guwahati, which has a guest room, multi-purpose hall and staff quarters which is according to the Sports Association of India.
