The Supreme Court has rejected appeals for a new round of counseling to fill the 1,456 vacancies in the court. The Supreme Court determined that students can not pray for admission for the NEET-PG 2021, which are mostly non-clinical, after around a year of the academic session and eight to nine rounds of counseling.
Several petitions to fill the 1,456 vacancies in the NEET-PG-2021 All-India Quota were dismissed on Friday, with the Supreme Court ruling that the government and Medical Council’s decision not to conduct a special extra round of counseling for that quota could not be viewed as arbitrarily made.
A bench comprising Justices MR Shah and Aniruddha Bose observed,
“It cannot be arbitrary when the Union of India and the Medical Council of India have made a clear determination to desist from conducting any specific stray rounds of counseling.”
“The safety of the general public’s health cannot be jeopardized by lowering the standard of medical training.” The petitioners are out of luck. “Medical education and health may benefit from the relief provided today.”
All India Quota (AIQ) Counselling and State Quota Counselling, which were followed by All India Mop-Up and State Mop-Up Rounds, endorsed the petition.
According to the Supreme Court, the government and the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC) made the right judgment by not allowing special stray rounds since it was in the public’s interest.
The UOI and MCC have made it plain that they will not perform any further stray rounds of counseling. Thus, the decision cannot be deemed arbitrary, according to the ruling.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court postponed its judgment on the petition. According to the court, students will be unable to assert their rights after 1.5 years if a seat remains vacant after 8 or 9 rounds of counseling.
On the other hand, the judge said,” In education, there is no room for compromise.
It’s something we know for a fact, too. What happens if you’ve been starving for six months? NO. The same may be said about education.
There are three years in total to complete the curriculum. The Supreme Court said on Wednesday that keeping 1456 seats available in NEET-PG puts applicants at peril and leads to a scarcity of trained physicians.
By postponing decision-making until Thursday, the vacation bench had given authorities a chance to file a statement detailing the current state of vacant seats and why they had remained unfilled throughout the day.
The DGHS ( Directorate General of Health Services ) has completed four rounds of online counseling for NEET-PG-21 and is unable to fill 1,456 seats by convening a special stray round of counseling since the software is locked, according to an affidavit submitted before the Supreme Court on Wednesday.
By maintaining more than 1,450 seats open in NEET-PG-21, the MCC has been accused by the Supreme Court of not only causing hardship for candidates but also resulting in a physician shortage.
In all, the National Medical Council conducted nine rounds of NEET-PG 2021 counseling, including four rounds of state counseling, four rounds of AIQ (All India Quota) counseling, and one round of AIQ counseling.
With 1,456 seats still available, the NEET-PG-21 online counseling process has come to an end.
Supreme Court Even if there are no large financial losses for the organization, applicants will lose a place that they would otherwise be entitled to, according to the statement, by filling any remaining seats (based on merit).
