The UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke about the deaths of two Indian troops in the Congo. PM Modi recommended prompt inquiries into the situation.
On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi talked with UN Secretary-General António Guterres over the deaths of two Border Security Force (BSF) members in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. PM Modi asked the UN president to order prompt investigations so that the offenders might be brought to justice.
Intense demonstrations on Tuesday resulted in the deaths of two BSF men who were working for the UN peacekeeping force in the Congo. The two troops were members of MONUSCO, the UN Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

In Congo, BSF personnel were killed
The second day of protests against the UN’s presence in the country in the city of Goma, in eastern Congo, reportedly resulted in at least five fatalities and approximately 50 additional injuries.

According to a border force official, “On July 26, two BSF troops of the UN Peace Keeping Contingent (MONUSCO) stationed in Butembo, Democratic Republic of Congo, succumbed to fatal injuries during the violent armed demonstrations.”
According to officials, two platoons, or around 70–74 BSF soldiers, were stationed in the region and were recruited in May of this year.
The mission has more than 16,000 uniformed people in Congo, according to the UN. According to the AP, the demonstrations are occurring as violence between the Congolese army and the M23 rebels has intensified, driving over 200,000 people from their homes.
S Jaishankar, the minister of external affairs, also expressed sorrow over the event.

UNO’s Mission
Keeping the peace and defending people in the Democratic Republic of the Congo on July 1st, 2010. (MONUSCO) replaced the United Nations Organization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUC), a previous UN peacekeeping mission.
The action was taken in conformity with Security Council Resolution 1925 of May 28 to represent the country’s transition into a new era.
The new mission has been permitted to employ any means necessary to carry out its mandate, which includes supporting the government of the DRC in its stabilization and peace consolidation efforts as well as protecting civilians, aid workers, and human rights defenders from immediate physical harm.
