Match 16 of ICC Women’s World Cup 2022 witnessed Protea women conquering The White Fern while chasing 229 at Seddon Park in Hamilton. New Zealand had won the toss and decided to bat first. New Zealand skipper Sophie Devine, who played an outstanding knock of 93, failed to lead it to a defend against South Africa batters in the second innings.
Marizanne Kapp produced an all-round performance and became the Player of the Match by taking 2/44 with ball and 34 not out with bat. Shabnim Ismail (3/27) and Ayabonga Khaka (3/31) were other two Protea bowlers to stop the White Ferns from targeting big.
In-form Laura Wolvaardt (67 off 94) kept chasing the target with a powerful start in the power play with Lizelle Lee (17 off 23). Skipper Sune Luss (51 off 73) helped the team in middle with Kapp whose performance was special and a treat to watch with departure of wickets.
Amelia Kerr (42 off 58) and Devine added 81 runs of partnership on score board. Kerr was also the highest wicket taker from her team (3/50).
The constant run chase of South Africa put New Zealand bowlers in trouble as they could not defend Protea batters from chasing and lost the match by two wickets.
South Africa is currently on the second spot in the points table with 8 points, whereas New Zealand stands at fourth position with 4 points.
