New Delhi:
The rules for the upcoming 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2022) will see some changes by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
From March 26 onwards, the tournament is slated, to begin with, the finalists from the last season, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) clashing in the opening encounter at the Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.
For the league stages, the tournament will be played across four venues in Maharashtra, including two new teams, i.e., Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Gujarat Titans (GT), and so IPL 2022 will have 74 matches in all, including the four playoff matches.
The final of the tournament on May 29 as well as the venues for the 4 playoff matches will be decided later.
Rules regarding COVID affecting a team from fielding 12 players for fielding 12 players for a match and how the ruling for that will be have been changed according to the BCCI.
From One to Two Innings DRS Reviews Increased for IPL 2022: BCCI has decided to give two DRS reviews per innings and that each team will get one extra DRS review per innings.
The BCCI said, “In each innings, the number of reviews has been increased from one to two.”
In the event of a tie in the playoff/final, a super over to break the tie will not be possible, and then the team that has finished higher in the league will be declared winners, as stated by the BCCI.
The new rule states that “If conditions do not permit a super over, or subsequent super over within the time available to determine the winner as described, then the team which, at the end of the relevant regular season, finished in the higher position in the league table will be deemed the winner of the relevant play-off match,”
