Delhi Weather Update: The Yamuna river had reached the danger mark of 205.38 metres around 4 pm on Friday which led to the evacuation of around 7,000 people from low-lying areas.The flood control room has warned the inhabitants of a flood alert.
On Thursday night of August 11th, 2022, Delhi government issued a flood alert seeing the increasing water level of the Yamuna river. The water continued to rise still, reaching 205.38 metres on Friday at 4 pm, as informed by the flood control department.
According to the flood control room, the water level at the Old Railway Bridge rose from 203.86 metres at 8 am Friday to 205.29 metres by 3 pm.
The water levels continued to rise due to heavy rainfall in the upper catchment area
As a result, Delhi Government declared a flood alert in Delhi. Condition being discharge rate from the Hathnikund Barrage in Haryana’s Yamuna Nagar crosses the one lakh-cusecs mark. 1 cusec refers to 28.32 litres of water per second. Due to this, around 37,000 inhabitants of the floodplains are vulnerable to flooding.Â
As informed by an official, people evacuated from low-lying areas in the floodplains have been shifted to temporary structures. These include tents and permanent buildings like schools around Commonwealth Games Village, Hathi Ghat and on Link Road
Important amenities including drinking water and food have been provided to them with the help of NGOs. Reported by Karawal Nagar SDM, Sanjay Sondhi.

Relief: Yamuna Level Dipped on Sunday
On the Sunday morning of 14th August, a report suggested the decrease in the water level of Yamuna. The river flowed at 204.91 metres on Sunday which is slightly below the danger mark of 205.33 metres.Â

The officials informed that the level is to dip further to 204.75 metres by Sunday afternoon and downwards in the coming days. Meanwhile, the evacuated public is being kept safe and fulfilled.
