Trinamool Congress MP, Derek O’Brien, On Monday, 4th April 2022, as a sign to push the launch of the Women’s Reservation Bill, had given a notice in the upper house of Rajya Sabha. TMC, having the maximum percentage of women MPs among all the other political parties, the TMC MP given the notice under Rule 168 for the passage of the long-pending bill in the parliament.
Rule 168 allows the members of the parliament to raise issues of public interest. While the bill aims to reserve one-third of seats for women in the Lok Sabha and state assemblies. In 1996, the United Front government led by Deve Gowda introduced the bill in the Lok Sabha.
Following that, the bill was introduced in 1988,1999 and 2008. When the bill was introduced in the upper house in 2008, after scrutiny, it was in 2010 in the Rajya Sabha and sent to the Lok Sabha. But with the end of the 15th Lok Sabha in 2014, the bill expired.
He tweeted today, April 4, “open dare to 56-inch @PMOindia government. Introduce the long-pending Women’s Reservation Bill in Parliament this week (before April 8) … @mamataofficial walks and talks. Mr. Modi come follow the leader.”
