According to the TN urban body election results, the ruling DMK and its allies are expected to win many of the Corporation, Town Panchayat, and Municipal wards, which began at 8 a.m. across the 10 southern districts of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday.
The Election Commission brought the Electronic Voting Machines from the closed chambers and broke the seal in front of the party candidates.
According to the initial data as of 10 a.m., the AIADMK has outperformed the DMK in Sivakasi Corporation, while the BJP has won its first ward in Nagercoil Corporation.
Further, Tiruppur’s ward no. 9 was won by the BJP candidate.
The BJP candidate received 230 votes, while the DMK candidate received just 30 votes, resulting in a deposit loss. The BJP won ward no. 3 in Karur district as well.
The two Dravidian giants, the DMK and the AIADMK, polled the most votes in the first two hours of counting, which began at 8 a.m. As of 10 a.m., the DMK and its allies were winning in 12 of the 14 wards for which leads were available in Dindigul Corporation,
while AIADMK and BJP were ahead in one apiece. So far, officials in Ramanathapuram Municipality have reported results in 14 wards, with the AIADMK winning one, the Congress two, the AMMK one, the DMK winning nine, and one independent winning.
Officials in Sivaganga reported that the Congress won three wards in Devakottai Municipality, while the AIADMK won two.
The DMK led in wards 1, 3, 6, and 7 in Kodaikanal Municipality, while the AIADMK led in wards 2 and 4.
After Usha of the AIADMK and Munivel of the BJP received 266 votes each in Ward 4 of Panagudi Town Panchayat in Tirunelveli district, Munivel was elected by a lottery. Wards 1, 3, 4, 5, 6,7,8,9,11,12,13, and 15 of Thoothukudi Corporation were won by the DMK.
The DMK won eight of the nine wards in Nagercoil Corporation, for which results have been announced so far, while the BJP won one.
The DMK alliance won six of the 100 wards in Madurai Corporation, including one each from the MDMK and the VCK, while the AIADMK led in five.
Amudha Muthuperkiniyan of the DMK received 3,511 votes in Ward 2 out of a total of 5013 total votes. Officials stated that all other contestants had lost their deposits.
