Tottenham Hotspurs bids Adieu to Antonio Conte
After the match against Southampton, Antonio Conte verbally attacked his players and disregarded the club’s hierarchy for their inefficiency to bring honour to the club. This was the latest of a series of incidents in which he openly criticised Tottenham Hotspurs during his spell at the club.
Spurs confirmed late on Sunday night that Antonio Conte has departed the club by mutual agreement. The club thanked Antonio for his contributions and wished him well for the future. Conte’s assistant Cristian Stellini will take over as the Acting Head Coach along with former Spurs’ midfielder Ryan Mason as Assistant Head Coach for the remainder of the season said Spurs in a statement.
Conte’s brief Spell at Tottenham Hotspur
The former Bianconeri tactician was appointed as Spurs’ boss on November 2021. He was at the end of his contract that was going to expire this summer, but the decision to part ways came early in the campaign as the management foresaw no positive reason to continue after his scathing attack on the North London club.
In his debut season at the club, Conte took charge of 76 games and recorded 41 victories along the way while losing 23 times. He led Spurs to the Champions League last season by finishing in the top four but since then, the North Londoners side has massively deteriorated under the Italian, despite his glorious track-records at Juventus, Chelsea, and Inter Milan.
Spurs’ hopes for their first trophy since the 2008 League cup win was further dashed after their harrowing Champions League exit to AC Milan. Their poor run continued with the FA Cup exit following a narrow defeat at the hands of Sheffield United.
Known for his controversial tactics, Conte’s defensive style of play did little to amplify Spurs’ performances and drew heavy criticism. He was also unpopular among the supporters for his critical views of the club. However, his extraordinary rant on the club’s mentality and poor trophy record following the Southampton match proved to be the last bite.
Daniel Levy believes Tottenham Hotspurs would make Top Four
After the draw with Southampton on March 18, Conte blasted his player in a press conference for their selfish mentality and said that they were not facing the problem. He added that this was the worst performance he had seen since his first season at the club and later criticized the club and owner Daniel Levy for being trophyless for the last 20 years.
The draw at St. Mary’s Stadium on Saturday left Spurs two points clear of fifth-place Newcastle, who have two more games in charge.
Spurs Chairman Daniel Levy urged the supporters to keep their faith as they look forward to finish the campaign on a positive note. The Spurs chairman asked the loyal supporters to get together and give their maximum support and assured them that the players will fight hard to secure a Champions League place in the last 10 games.
