On Wednesday, the police in Bengaluru arrested both the partner and friend of a 19-year-old woman who was allegedly raped in Girinagar. The incident came to light as authorities took swift action, apprehending the suspects.

The survivor’s complaint states that the incident took place at the residence of the bank employee. Upon hearing her distressed screams as she left the room that night, concerned neighbors promptly notified the police.

According to a police officer familiar with the matter, the incident occurred on Tuesday night when the survivor’s partner, aged 22, brought the woman to his friend’s residence in Girinagar under the pretense of returning her mobile phone. It is alleged that he then proceeded to sexually assault her.

According to the police, the individual’s significant other is employed as a delivery agent, while their friend, who is 23 years old, works as a sales representative at a bank.

The officer stated that, as per the complaint filed by the woman, she had been involved in a relationship with the man since September of the previous year.

“According to an anonymous officer, the accused took possession of the survivor’s mobile phone a week ago. On Tuesday, the survivor requested the return of her phone. The accused instructed her to meet him at Majestic in Bengaluru to retrieve it. They encountered each other at approximately 8:30 pm,” stated the officer, speaking on the condition of anonymity.

According to the officer, he transported her on his scooter to his friend’s place around 10 pm. The survivor expressed her intention to retrieve her mobile phone and depart. However, her partner insisted that she spend the night there.

Later that evening, according to the officer citing the complainant, the accused attempted to initiate physical contact with the survivor. However, she firmly declined his advances. The officer further stated that the accused then supposedly offered her a drink that was laced with a substance, causing her to feel drowsy, after which he proceeded to rape her. Subsequently, the accused allegedly told his friend to also sexually assault her, as per the officer’s account.

The friend of the accused has contradicted the accusations and stated that he was not in the room at the time of the incident, police said.

According to the officer mentioned earlier, both individuals have been charged with rape due to the alleged incident taking place in the accused person’s friend’s room. However, the woman’s partner asserts that the encounter was consensual. Based on the woman’s complaint, the Girinagar police station has registered a case against the two men, invoking Sections 376 (rape) and 340 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

“The investigation officer stated that both individuals have been placed in judicial custody,” the officer reported. Police have conducted a medical examination on the survivor, and the results are currently pending, according to authorities.
