One person was critically injured and two people were killed after their car, which was traveling at dangerous speeds, lost control and smashed into a railing on Palm Beach Road in Navi Mumbai early Wednesday morning.Ā
According to the police authorities, there was no other car involved in the accident. Blood samples have been taken from all three of the car’s passengers to determine whether or not they were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.Ā
The accident happened at about 3.30 a.m. on Palm Beach Road, near the Akshar signal, as the vehicle was traveling from Vashi to Belapur, police said.Ā Ā
It has been confirmed that the victims were Shreyas Thosar (22 years old), a resident of Thane, and Harshal Hotkar (27 years old), a resident of Airoli. The car was being driven by Nitin Mathew (27 years old), a resident of Sanpada who was their friend. At the moment, he is receiving ventilator support at Apollo Hospital.Ā
While the car was equipped with an airbag system, which helped to reduce the impact, it was being driven at a speed of 120 kmph. The car was punctured by a railing on the side of the road. “The two sustained multiple injuries leading to immediate death,” a police officer stated.Ā
In the past, the three friends used to work for the same firm and were all single. It was discovered that they had dropped another friend before the accident, and who will be interrogated later.Ā
