Bharat Arun insisted on having Umran in the squad, in place of so many spinners.
Bharat Arun, unhappy with the team selection for the Australia world cup, believes that Umran Malik can be useful for the team in Australian conditions in place of 3 spinners.Â
The bowling options in the team
Instead of adding another pacer to the squad, the team opted for 3 spinners Yuzi Chahal (leg spinner), Ravi Ashwin (off-spinner), and Axar Patel (left-arm offspinner) also they have Deepak Hooda who can give a few overs with his off-spin bowling.
He said that the team has too many spin options. Even though the grounds are big, spinners will have some assistance while bowling but Australian pitches mostly support pacers, so the team would prefer only one spinner in the team.
In Perth’s game versus Western Australia, Ravi Ashwin played well. In his four-over spell, the off-spinner took three wickets for a total of 32.
The team has 3 proper fast options and the fourth seam bowling option would be, the team earlier looked deadly and had a better combination but after Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the world cup. The fast bowling looks weak.
The team is currently looking at the likes of Md. Shami, Siraj, and Shardul who have joined the team as net bowlers, and anyone among them is likely to replace Jasprit Bumrah in the world cup squad.
Wasim Akram and Brett Lee on Umran’s inclusion
Not only Bharat Arun, but fast legendary bowlers like Brett Lee and Wasim Akram also insisted on having Umran in the T20 world cup team.
Wasim Akram, a former captain of Pakistan, supported Umran Malik, a phenomenal young player from India, as Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement for the forthcoming T20 World Cup in 2022.
Malik has only participated in three international games thus far and made his T20I debut, earlier this year. Mohammed Shami and Mohammad Siraj are the players vying to take Bumrah’s place in the lineup, but Akram thought Malik would be a better choice.
Great Australian fast bowler, Brett Lee feels that Umran Malik, a fast bowler from Jammu and Kashmir, should have been included in India’s squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022, which will be held in Australia in October-November.
Umran and Kuldeep Sen’s departure delayed due to Visa issues
It is also reported that Umran and Kuldeep Sen were asked to join the team as the net bowlers but due to visa issues, their departure got delayed.
