Students of the University of Calcutta took to the streets to protest against the offline examinations.
Thousands of students have raised objections against the decision of the university authorities to take the offline examination. A huge number of students have gathered in the streets of the college street campus and are carrying on the protest against giving online examinations.
The Demand of the Students
The students protesting online examinations are of the view that most of the syllabi in their colleges remain incomplete, and the blend of online and offline modes is making their studies more difficult.
A six-month syllabus has to be learned and covered in a period of one month by the students, and this is becoming extremely difficult for them. Most of the students say that they are not in a proper state of mind to sit for an offline examination after a period of about two years. The students had earlier sent emails and petitions to the university authorities for giving online examinations. Most of the students were peacefully protesting their demand to appear in the online examination.
Huge Students Protest
The decision of the university compelled students to go on a violent protest in the campus area. Students took to the streets and sat down for hours, blocking the traffic. They even gave slogans against the university and the demand for online examinations.
In the interviews given to the local media channels, most of the students say that they have only received two and a half months of offline teaching for which they are not prepared to give offline examinations. The students also said that other contemporary universities in West Bengal have opted for online examinations for their students, but the University of Calcutta is among the only three universities that are going for offline examinations. The students are continuing their protests until their demands are fulfilled.
