India defeats Bangladesh by 5 runs via the DLS method at the Adelaide Oval, Australia, on Wednesday, and now tops the Group B Super 12 table with 3 wins. Indian batsmen and bowlers cleared the way for Indiaâs win in ICC Menâs T20 World Cup 2022.
Unstoppable impactful innings of Virat Kohli, Arshdeep Singh, and Hardik Pandyaâs spectacular bowling helped India win, and not to forget KL Rahul coming back in the form and scoring a half-century on 32 balls.Â
The rain interrupted the match while Bangladesh batsmen played 7 overs, resulting in a halt. When the match resumed, Bangladesh had a revised score of 151 runs to chase in 16 overs, as per the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS method), and managed to come with 145 runs at a loss of 6 wickets.
Kohli-Rahul partnership, Yadavâs contributing inningsÂ
Bangladesh won the toss and chose to field first, whereas India left quite a chasing score of 185 with 6 wickets down in 20 overs. Kohli and KL Rahul together forged 67 runs. The eighth over contributed a crucial 24 runs to the final score of the Indian team. Suryakumar Yadav played innings of 30 runs, leading the team towards success. Rohit Sharma did not seem to be in form today and got out after scoring 2 runs. Â
Litton Dasâs striking score, and wicket – a turning pointÂ
As Bangladesh began itsâ batting, the match was predicted to be in their favor. Within the starting 3 overs, Bangladeshâs score was 30 runs, and after powerplay 44 runs, without any loss of wicket.Â
Before rain interrupted the match, Dasâs impressive batting was leading Bangladesh towards a win, while the team made 54 runs, 51 of them were chased by Litton. India was struggling to get a wicket and finally took the first when the match picked up after rain. The much-needed crucial wicket of Litton Das was taken by Ashwin and KL Rahul, which turned the tables of the match. Das contributed 60 runs in the total score of Bangladesh on 27 balls.Â
Stirring bowling of Arshdeep and Pandya
Arshdeep Singh and Hardik Pandya both clinched 2 wickets each, giving 38 runs in 4 overs, and 28 runs in 3 overs, respectively. Singh took his first wicket when Bangladesh was at 100 and second at 102, both in 1 over. Pandya following over, pulled off 2 wickets, while giving 7 runs in the same over.Â
Player of the match
Virat Kohli conferred with Player of the match for his striking innings. This win now takes India closer to the semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2022. Although India now tops the Group B table of Super 12, if South Africa beats Pakistan tomorrow, then it will be in the lead.Â
Rohit Sharma on win
âBit of both. I was calm as well as nervous at the same time. It was important for us as a group to stay calm & execute our plans. With 10 wickets in our hand, it could have gone either way but after the rain break, we did quite well. When he came into the scene, we asked him to do – that for us. With Bumrah not there, someone has to do it for us, & take the responsibility, for such a young man to come & do it is not that easy. But we prepared him for it. The previous nine months he has been doing itâ.Â
âThere was a choice between Shami & him but we backed someone who did the job for us previously. In my opinion, Kohli always had been there, it was just a matter of a few innings here & there, and he got it in the Asia Cup. We never had any doubts & the way he has been batting in this World Cup has been tremendous & he is really doing it for us. Also liked the way KL Rahul played today.
We are aware of what sort of a player he is, if he bats the way – he can, he puts the team in a totally different position. Our fielding was brilliant, and some of the catches we took were great to watch. It is a high-pressure game, to take those catches shows the ability of our guys & to be honest I never had any doubts about our fieldingâ.Â
Earlier, it seemed like Bangladesh had confirmed its win and will chase the score but rain was a turning point and with the impressive bowling and fielding of team India, they managed to win the important match.
