Yogi Adityanath led BJP is all set to hoist flags in Uttar Pradesh once again for its second term. Starting from exit polls there had been strong predictions of BJP retaining power in the state.
The numbers and statistics were also promising that the BJP is going to take over in the race. BJP league was ahead in 266 seats, while the nearest competitor Samajwadi Party was struggling with leads in 132 seats.
The state has a total number of 403 Assembly seats and requires 202 seats to build a majority government which the ruling party has already achieved. This victory can be seen as a litmus paper test for upcoming elections as well.
Not just the celebrations, the Modi led BJP is also witnessing the historical record break. This will be the first time in 3 decades that a ruling party returning to power in Uttar Pradesh.
Prominent candidates include Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath from Gorakhpur, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav from kharal , Shivpal Yadav from Jaswant Nagar and CLP leader Aradhana Shukla from Rampur Khas a.k.a pratapghar has secured the leading positions. Adityanath achieved a landslide victory in Gorakhpur Urban seat leading over his nearest SP’s Subhawati Shukla by about 15,000 votes. The hours before the results pitched in, many BJP party workers began the celebrations Though the figures were standing out to show the BJP’S victory, SP party workers made allegations against the ruling party for spreading rumours.
What was Yogi Adityanath’s reaction to the victory?
“Everyone had their eyes on UP, given the vastness of the state. I am thankful to the people for making us win with the majority. Even in Covid times as well under PM Modi’s leadership, the BJP has worked for the people of UP,” he said. Yogi Adityanath and the remaining party workers celebrated the victory by playing Holi. In his victory speech, UP chief minister Yogi Adityanath also said the BJP’s “double engine” government had given a sense of security to the people in the last five years, and that the saffron party had worked for the development of UP and also added that the party will fulfil all promises and aim to win the people’s trust once again. By these words, Yogi has also sown extreme joy in retaining power.
What was the plight of the Samajwadi Party?
Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav won the kharal Vidhan sabha seat and the SP alliance has won 25 seats. Mohammad Azam Khan took the lead with 78,345 votes in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur constituency. Khan, who is currently in jail, has won from this assembly as many as nine times. BJP’s Akash Saxena was far behind in the second spot with 16,381 votes.
