Voting in Muzaffarnagar came to a halt over a glitch in the EVM machine.
Voting for the first phase of the assembly election comes to a halt in Muzaffarnagar in Western UP due to a glitch in Electronic Voting Machines (EVM). The incident has been reported from Islamia College.
The glitch was affirmed to be fixed over a wait of 90 minutes.
On asked a voter about the delay in voting outside the voting booth by a news portal. A woman voter said that they were told to come back later. As there was some glitch in the EVM machine. Another woman said, “yeh Hamara Haq hai” (this is our right). She stayed outside to cast her vote.
According to ANI, a bridegroom came in wedding attire to cast his vote in Muzaffarnagar on his wedding day. He said “Pehle Matdaan, Uske baad Bahu, Uske baad sab Kaam” (First casting vote, then bride, then rest all work).
UP voting poll
The voting poll starts from 7 a.m. onwards and will end at 6 p.m. On Thursday. Uttar Pradesh conducted the 1 phase of the assembly poll election in 11 districts of western UP, covering 58 seats.
Around 2.27 crore people are eligible to vote in the first phase. 623 candidates are in the fray. The Voting turnout was recorded to be 20.03% in the first phase around 11 a.m.
The districts include Muzaffarnagar, Baghpat, Ghaziabad, Meerut, Hapur, Shamli, Aligarh, Buddh Nagar, Bulandshahr, Agra, and Mathura.
The rift for the post of Chief Minister is between Yogi Adityanath from the Bhartiya Janta Dal and Akhilesh Yadav from Samajwadi Party.
In the 2017 election, the ruling party has swept the region with 53 seats out of 58. But this election could be a setback for the BJP party as 7 out of 11 districts are Jat-dominated areas that actively took part against the three central agricultural laws, which have now been repealed.
The Yogi Adityanath Government was also highly criticized for mishandling the second wave of covid-19.
Future Election Condition
The other six phases where the elections will take place are on the 14th of February with nine districts. 55 assembly seats on the 20th of February with 16 districts and 59 assembly seats. The next phase of the election will conduct on the 23rd of February with 9 districts and 59 assembly seats. the 27th of February with 11 districts and 61 assembly seats. 3rd of March with ten districts and 57 assembly seats.
The final election will conduct on the 7th of March with nine districts and 54 assembly seats. The votes will be counted on the 10th of March. Dates for assembly elections in Goa, Manipur, Punjab, and Uttarakhand will also be announced on the same day.
