Goyal expressed his delight in meeting with US Ambassador Eric Garcetti and shared that they had productive discussions on advancing collaboration across diverse sectors to bolster the momentum of the expanding strategic partnership between the two countries.
In a recent event, the US Mission in India successfully organized its 7th Annual Student Visa Day, which took place across the country. During this initiative, consular officers conducted interviews for Indian student visa applicants.
During his speech at the US Embassy, Garcetti highlighted that the United States attracts a greater number of Indian students compared to any other country.
During his visit to the US Embassy, Garcetti expressed his admiration for the mission’s work and emphasized the robust relationship between the US-India. He mentioned that a larger number of Indian students choose to pursue education in the United States compared to students from any other country.Â
He further noted that India attained the top spot in this regard last year and he foresees this trend continuing in the future. Garcetti highlighted the significance of this relationship as a reflection of the shared values of inclusivity and providing access to higher education for individuals globally, not just Americans.
Garcetti emphasized that in 2022, a significant statistic emerged where one out of every five US student visas was granted to Indian applicants in India. This proportion surpasses the relative share of the Indian population in the world, demonstrating the immense interest and commitment of Indians towards pursuing education in the United States.
Additionally, he acknowledged the longstanding tradition of Indians showcasing their excellence in various fields within the United States. Furthermore, Garcetti stated that they are currently on a trajectory to handle the largest volume of visa applications in history, indicating a sustained and growing trend of Indians seeking educational opportunities in the United States.
During the “Conversations on US-India: Actions for Clean Air and Better Health” event held at the India International Centre, Garcetti expressed his commitment to prioritize collaboration with India in developing sustainable and environmentally friendly energy solutions. In his role as Ambassador, he pledged to actively support the ongoing bilateral initiatives aimed at achieving a successful transition towards green energy.
The foundation of the US-India relationship lies in shared values such as the rule of law, diversity appreciation, and democratic governance. Both nations possess a mutual interest in advancing global security, promoting stability, and fostering economic prosperity through avenues such as trade, investment, and connectivity.
Diplomatic relationship between US-India
On November 1, 1946, a significant milestone was reached with the establishment of diplomatic relations between the US-India. During this momentous occasion, the American Mission at New Delhi was elevated to the status of an Embassy by the U.S. Department of State. This decision came after the Governments of India and the United States agreed, as announced by the U.S. Department of State on October 22, 1946, to mutually exchange ambassadors and upgrade their respective missions to the rank of embassies.
