Virat Kohli in his 500th International match against West Indies, scored his 29th test century by scoring 121 runs in the second test match, after five long years.
Virat Kohli scored his 29th test century on the second day of International test series against West Indies at Queen’s Park Oval. It was Kohli’s 500th International test and his 111th test appearance wear he accomplished this milestone.
He eventually got run-out after scoring 121 with India at 341-5, this happened with Kohli for the 3rd time that he got run out in his cricketing career.
Virat Kohli reached the test century with a boundary against Shannon Gabriel, which has added another feather to his cap. By scoring the century he joined the elite group of players with the most scored centuries at No.4 position in test cricket. He has been ranked 4th position along with these top 3 players such as; Sachin Tendulkar, Jacques Kallis and Mahela Jayawardene.
Virat Kohli has excelled himself in this role. He has assumed this crucial batting position after over taking the legendary cricket player of India, Sachin Tendulkar in 2013.
Kohli even surpassed the great West Indies player Brian Lara. Brian Lara retired with an impressive 24th century and gained 4th position but Kohli surpassed him on Day 2 by scoring his 25th century. Among the current active cricket players, Joe Root who is former captain of England team, comes closest to kohli by 19 centuries at no.4.
Kohli, who missed out on hundred in the previous test. He equaled the record on Sir Don Bradman’s 29hundreds in India’s commendable first inning scores itself. In the process, he also added 159 runs for the fifth wicket alongside with Jadeja (Ravindra Jadeja) 61 off 152 balls, who also scored his 19th half-century record in the test match.
Notably, this century will hold a special place for Kohli as it was his 500th match for team India across all formats. Which is a very impressive and remarkable achievement shared y only few others in Indian cricket history.
Kohli’s commendable performance, alongside with the contribution of other players in Indian cricket team, such as Rohit Sharma, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin, guided Indian team to a commendable first inning of the match by scoring total of 438 in Port of Spain. India is currently holding 1-0 lead in the two match series by defeating the West Indies by an innings and 141 runs.

Overall, India played very well in the second test match and Kohli too found an able ally in Ravindra Jadeja, who scored half century and reaffirmed his status as a batting all-rounder when it comes to overseas conditions.
