Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary-General alerted on Friday against a “global mental health crisis” when he was launching a report on mental health.
One of the top UN officials voiced in his video message by launching the World Mental Health Report 2022. “Transforming Mental Health For All by stating that “we are surviving through a global mental health crisis”.” Guterres further adds by saying that nearly 1 billion people around the world including children and the younger generation have a mental health condition. Most people even lack the approach to treatment.
Commenting on the report prepared by the World Health Organization, Guterres said the report is a roadmap to guide countries in improving their mental health systems. “I recommend it to governments, and mental health stakeholders, everywhere,” said the secretary-general. (ANI/Xinhua)
He further cites the reason by stating that services are either unavailable or unaffordable for the treatment, also there is the stigma that stops people to seek help. Today people with mental health conditions are at a high risk of physical and emotional abuse. Per year around 1 trillion US dollars cost the global economy alone for depression and anxiety.
