Chandrayaan-2 India's Second Lunar Mission

Chandrayaan-2 was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre of Sriharikota, on 22nd July 2019.

This ISRO mission cost nearly Rs 1,000 crore and was fully indigenous.

On August 20, 2019, Chandrayaan-2 successfully entered into lunar orbit..

The module comprised an Orbiter, Lander and Rover.

It was designed to study the Moon’s origin and evolution, particularly water ice, the spacecraft's predecessor spotted at the south pole.

The lander was named Vikram, after Vikram Sarabhai, the founder of India's space program.

On September 02, 2019 the Vikram lander successfully separated from the Chandrayaan-2 orbiter.

Though the soft-landing had failed, the orbiter, with eight scientific instruments, was successfully in Lunar orbit performing its mission.

The orbiter’s High-Resolution Camera (OHRC) captured some stunning close-up images of the Moon. It has had a long life of 7 years over the planned one year.
