ISRO was formed on August 15, 1969 and superseded INCOSPAR with an expanded role to harness space technology.

The Secretariat of DOS and ISRO Headquarters are located at Antariksh Bhavan in Bangalore. 

Vikram Sarabhai was the first chairman of ISRO. 

The prime objective of ISRO/DOS is the development and application of space technology for various national needs. 

The first Indian satellite, Aryabhata, was built by the ISRO and launched with the help of the Soviet Union on April 19, 1975. 

ISRO ranks 4th in the top 10 Best Space Agencies in the World in 2024 

It has been 44 years, and ISRO has successfully launched almost 150 satellites. 

Chandrayaan-1  the first Indian lunar probe under the Chandrayaan programme. It was launched by ISRO in October 2008

India now joins the U.S., Russia and China as the only countries to successfully land a spacecraft on the lunar surface.
