Jane Mallory Birkin, a British and French singer and actress, gained international fame for her romantic partnership with Serge Gainsbourg and her prolific career in French cinema.
Judy Campbell, an English actress, and David Birkin, a Royal Navy lieutenant commander, were the parents of Jane Mallory Birkin.
In 1965, Birkin married British composer John Barry, but their union ended in a miserable divorce. Birkin moved to Paris in 1968 to work on "Slogan," where she met Gainsbourg.
Some of the singer's most popular studio album includes – Di doo dah (1973), Lolita Go Home (1975), Ex fan des sixties (1978), Baby Alone in Babylone (1983) and Lost Song (1987).
Jane Birkin received the Order of the British Empire in 2001, French Ordre National du Mérite in 2004 and 2015, and the Japanese Order of the Rising Sun in 2018.
Birkin was discovered dead at her Paris residence on July 16, 2024. Age-wise, she was 76. The cause of her death is still unknown.
