UGC and MOE collaborate to organize a national webinar on the importance of different Indian languages for the holistic development of a child.
On September 23, the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC) hosted a national webinar titled “Strengthening Indian Languages for Holistic Educational Attainment” as part of a series of webinars on good governance held from September 17 to October 7. Annapurna Devi, Minister of State for Education, was the event’s chief guest.
The webinar was attended by Higher Education Secretary Amit Khare, UGC Chairman Prof DP Singh, and senior officials from the Education Ministry and the UGC.
Objective
As a part of the Good Governance Pakhwada, which runs from September 17 to October 7, 2021, the Ministry of Education and the University Grants Commission (UGC) presented a national webinar on strengthening Indian languages for holistic educational achievement yesterday. The webinar featured Annapurna Devi, the Minister of state for education.
• To give due importance to different Indian languages. The schools and higher educational institutions to take active participation in this.
• To conduct teaching-learning procedures in regional language dialectician languages.
• To instil a feeling of unity and integrity among the learners.
• To build the learners as aware future citizens of India.
• To preserve and promote different regional dialects and Indian languages.
• To emphasize the importance of academic and social support to strengthen the usage of Indian languages for overall development in the entire education sector, benefiting both the teacher and student.
• To realize the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi of an “atmanirbhar Bharat” or self reliability among Indians
language preservation and promotion of Indian languages are critical for the nation’s unity and integrity. The Minister stated that Indian languages do not receive the attention they deserve and that 220 languages have been lost in the last 50 years. Schools and higher education institutions should provide Indian language instruction.

DP Singh on This
Prof. DP Singh, Chairman of the UGC, spoke about the UGC’s efforts to establish several language centres to promote Indian languages.
Pro Singh also discussed the NEP’s role in fostering Indian languages, multilingual education, the arts, and culture in India.
With the implementation of NEP 2020, the Chairman of the UGC spoke at the webinar about working on the development of Institutes of Translation and Interpretation across the country.
The webinar on strengthening the Indian language for holistic educational attainment gave famous academics, educationalists, and administrators a venue to examine future ways of deserving attention and efforts to Indian languages, dialects, and learners’ holistic development.

Smt. Annapurna Devi spoke at the opening session about Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s goal for Atmanirbhar Bharat. She emphasized the importance of preserving and promoting Indian languages for the nation’s unity and integrity.
She noted that Indian languages had not received the attention and care they deserve, with the country losing over 220 languages only in the last 50 years. The Minister stated that the teaching and learning of Indian languages should be integrated into all levels of education, including school and higher education.
She further claimed that the NEP would serve as a link between local and global communities by providing opportunities for teaching and learning in regional dialects and Indian languages.
