The name Mandous Cyclone has become a new chant of Chennai people these days. Yes, the Cyclone which has its origin in Bay of Bengal, is crossing between Puducherry and Sriharikota today and has done enough damage already. Mandous Cyclone is expected to cross Mamallapuram with the speed range between 65-75 kph tonight and three districts, Chengkalpattu, Vilupuram and Kancheepuram were declared Red alert by IMD so far. Twelve districts across the state declared holidays to schools and colleges. The state Tamilnadu and its capital Chennai have to adapt itself for this new change in its routine as follows owing to the #Mandous Cyclone.
Mofussil Buses to stop services due to Mandous Cyclone for Two hours
There were some changes with Government mofussil buses as Tamilnadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin instructed to halt the services in Chennai, Kancheepuram, Chengalpet, Tiruvallur, Vilupuram districts before and after two hours of the landfall of the Cyclone. It is expected from the public to avoid travelling during those time period
Cancellations of Domestic & International Flights in Chennai due to Mandous Cyclone
Flights including international flights were delayed an hour in the morning and nearly twelve flights were cancelled already. The Airport Authority of India and the airlines have sent an advisory note to the passengers to reach airport only after proper checking with the status of the flights and confirming the timings.
Closing of Parks, Playground & Beaches
Under the influence of the Cyclone, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the state. As a result the Chennai Corporation has ordered all the parks and the playground to be closed till further notice. It has also been asked from people not to visit the beach today and all the shops from the beach were closed in this regard.
NDRF & Relief Centres to standby
The National Disaster Response Force has deployed its team to stand by due to the onset of Cyclone. According to NDRF officials, the team is fully prepared to face against the Cyclone as the officers are on duty for 24 hours to help the public. Relief centres and shelters across the state were open to handle the worst case scenarios.
Changes in neighboring states
The Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Y. S. Jegan Mohan Reddy chaired a meeting with the officials to discuss and plan the rescue forces as the Mandous Cyclone is expected to create a heavy lash of rain in Annamayya, Chittoor, Kadapa, Nellore, Prakasam and Tirupati districts in the state. Puducherry Chief Minister had also called for a review meeting in accordance with the Cyclone. NDRF has been deployed and several relief centers have been opened to serve the public in this regard.
Safety measures for & by the general public
The people across the state are expected to act according to the situation. It would be better if vehicles including two wheelers and four wheelers were not parked under trees, cyclone essentials like Torches and Candles were kept ready and clean drinking water resources are maintained properly, fruits and bread are well stacked. It is expected from the public to look out for safety measures in terms of electricity and personal hygiene.
