Delta and Omicron variants continue to dominate a fresh wave in China, Hong Kong. The pandemic is far from over, as cases are rising significantly in many Asian and European countries. In China, the Omicron variant has wreaked havoc, with many fresh cases coming daily.
Even though in India, the cases are not rising that rapidly, there is a spike in cases. The World Health Organisation (WHO) on Saturday said that there has been a reported increase of 8%, or over 11 million COVID-19 cases globally.
Not just that, but there is also a huge amount of misinformation out there. “We have huge amounts of misinformation that’s out there.

China’s Situation
The condition in China has started to worsen as there has been a great spike in cases. China reported two deaths due to COVID-19 on Saturday, the first since January 2021.
On Saturday, China reported 2,157 new community transmissions, mostly in Jilin. China has continued to impose a “zero-COVID” strategy that focuses on mass testing and strict lockdowns.
In Singapore
On Saturday, Singapore reported 10,244 new COVID-19 cases. The total number of infections has now increased to 1,007,158. Three deaths were also reported, taking the death toll from coronavirus complications to 1,191.
Hong Kong reported a single-day spike of 16,597 cases
Hong Kong on Saturday reported 7,528 new COVID-19 cases. On Friday, Hong Kong COVID-19 cases surpassed 1 million. The reasons behind the high death rate are thought to be poor vaccination and an overburdened healthcare system.
South Korea records 6 lakh daily cases
On Sunday, 334,708 new COVID-19 cases were reported. The country also witnessed 327 new coronavirus-related deaths on Sunday. The country is managing the situation very well as the outbreak is still under control.
The UK was badly hit by the Omicron variant
As per an AFP report, one in 20 people is currently estimated to be infected with the virus. In one of the world’s hardest-hit countries by COVID-19, more than 163,000 people died during the pandemic. The National Health Service said, “England will begin rolling out its fourth coronavirus vaccine shot.”
