The heartthrob actor Sidharth Shukla died of a heart attack at 40 on September 2, 2021, in Mumbai. Sidharth’s death has drawn attention to the increasing number of heart ailments among people in their 30s and 40s. The cases of conventional heart diseases are increasing in young people. Dr Mukesh Goyal says, “Fitness and health should not be confused with each other. They are entirely different. You can achieve fitness by going to the gym, but not health”. Dr Goyal is a senior consultant, a cardiothoracic and vascular surgeon in the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, New Delhi. He further adds that this does not mean that you should not go to the gym. Instead, after the age of 25, schedule a regular health checkup with a doctor of your choice. Dr Mukesh suggested that focusing on a healthy diet, avoiding smoking, alcohol and stress can tremendously reduce the risks of cardiac arrests.
Experts believe that young people often ignore discomfort or mistake it for gas, which generally proves fatal. Youngsters do not expect any blockage in their hearts and do not go for regular checkups. One must learn that the body changes as we grow and responds differently, making it essential to know what is happening inside.

Patients with a family history of heart diseases, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol are high-risk. Such patients must undergo regular physical health checkups and change their lifestyles. Regularly feeling dizzy and light-headed is a sign of lowered oxygen saturation levels. Immediate consultation with a doctor is advisable on noticing these signs.
