On Friday, May 21, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant stated that the state government would challenge the district court according to the rape case against High Court reporter Tarun Tejpal acquitted in 2013. Today, the sessions court in Mapusa opened the Case and convicted Tejpal of sexually assaulting his former colleague in the elevator of a five-star resort in Goa.
In a conversation with journalists, CM Sawant said that they would not tolerate any unfair treatment and harassment of the women in He went on to state that “we will challenge the High Court as soon as possible.” Sawant also claimed that there was sufficient evidence against the accused.
The accused was previously held trial under IPC sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 342 (wrongful confinement), 354 (assault or criminal force with intent to outrage modesty), 354-A (sexual harassment), 354-B (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe), 376(2)(f) (person in a position of authority over women, committing rape) and 376(2)k) (rape by a person in a position of control) when arrested first in 2013.
