When Chris Rock made a joke about Jada Pinkett Smith on Sunday Oscar night, Will Smith went on stage and hit him in the face.Â
Oscars 2022 was aired on Sunday, March 27. It was held late due to pre-COVID standards. The ceremony was broadcast from the Dolby Theater in Hollywood. The event was glamorous, and awards were handed over to all the deserving entries, where Will Smith won Best Actor for King Richard.
He is the fifth black actor to win in this category â the fourth since 2000. But the one incident that caught everyoneâs attention was when Will Smith slapped Chris Rock on the night of the award ceremony. Â
Smith stepped up on his widely expected moment of victory by overreacting to a joke told by Chris Rock about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith. Smith walked up to the stage during Rock’s remarks and was seen slapping him in the face.
In his acceptance speech, Smith apologized to the Academy, but he did not apologize to Chris Rock for his actions. He repeated something he said Denzel Washington told him, “At your highest moment, be careful. That’s when the devil comes for you.”Â
What Enraged Will Smith?
Jada Pinkett Smith has an alopecia diagnosis and she has spoken publicly aboutâŻit. But when Chris Rock arrived to present the award for Best Documentary and began raving about the celebrity participant. Along with that Rock directly outspoke about Pinkett Smith’s bald head as a joke which triggered Will Smith. Â
After the show, the Academy endowed a statement “Tonight, we are delighted to celebrate our 94th Academy Award winners, who are serving their peers around the world and film. They deserve this moment of recognition from their lovers. And it does not condone violence of any form “.
At this moment in time, no one knows for sure if Will Smithâs actions were justified. But the one thing that moment clearly justified was Will Smithâs affection towards her wife. Â
