The wings of the Ulduar raid are finally open for players to challenge. Learn how to defeat the first set of bosses in The Siege of Ulduar.
The long-awaited Phase 2 raid is finally open for players to challenge. If you want to farm WoTLK Classic gold, then Ulduar is one of the best places to farm items for profit. This vast Titan complex contains some of the most challenging bosses in Wrath of the Lich King, so players should take their time studying and understanding the raids’ mechanics. This guide will cover all the essential strategies for clearing this challenge.
The Ulduar Raid
Ulduar is the newest raid featured in Phase 2, and it features some of the most challenging bosses, such as Freya and Mimiron. There is a total of 14 encounters in this instance, which includes one extra elite. These fights are divided into four wings, so it would take considerable time and effort to clear them. Beating these entities will reward players with many powerful and fantastic WoTLK items. Here are all the bosses in Ulduar:
The Siege of Ulduar
- Flame Leviathan
- Ignis the Furnace Master
- Razorscale
- XT-002 Deconstructor
The AnteChamber of Ulduar
- Assembly of Iron
- Kologarn
- Auriaya
The Keepers of Ulduar
- Freya
- Hodir
- Mimiron
- Thorim
The Descent into
- General Vezax
- Yogg-Saron
Celestial Planetarium
- Algalon the Observer
The end boss of the Ulduar is the Old God Yogg-Saron, the primary inhabitant of the Titan prison. There are two variants of this raid: the 10-man and the 25-man party sizes. In addition, you can also challenge Ulduar in either Normal or Heroic mode.
How to Get into Ulduar
Getting into Ulduar can be tricky, especially if you still need to get a flying mount ready. The area where you can find the entrance also leads players to another dungeon. Fortunately, the one leading to Ulduar is noticeable since it is high up in the air, so make sure you don’t enter the wrong one.
The only way to enter the raid is to use a flying mount or get summoned by a Warlock. It can be challenging to enter Ulduar if you don’t have the flying mount ability, but it is not entirely impossible. The coordinate to the entrance is /way The Storm Peaks 64.62, 58.12.
How to Fight Each Boss in Ulduar
Each fight in Ulduar will feature different patterns, which can be hard to memorize. If you can’t remember all of them, then you should be able to recognize or understand them. Most of the bosses in Ulduar have Hard Mode or Heroic Mode, in which you can trigger specific interactions. Fights will become increasingly challenging, but clearing them will drop better rewards. Here is how you fight each boss:
The Siege of Ulduar
Flame Leviathan
The fight with the Flame of Leviathan is unique because instead of using your characters, players will be taking command of vehicles to fight this boss. The key to winning this fight is synergizing your tanks and learning when to DPS or kite. Here are all the mountable machines in this raid:
- Salvaged Siege Engine
- Driver Skills: Ram, Electroshock, and Steam Rush
- Turret Skills: Anti-Air Rocket, Fire Cannon, and Shield Generator
- Salvaged Demolisher
- Driver Skills: Hurl Boulder, Hurl Pyrite Barrel, Ram, and Throw Passenger
- Turret Skills: Mortar, Anti-Air Rocket, Grab Crate, Increased Speed, and Load into Catapult
- Salvaged Chopper
- Driver Skills: Speed Boost, Sonic Horn, Tar, and First Aid Kit
The Flame Leviathan has no particular unique mechanic or gimmick other than rideable engines. Aside from its regular attacks, it will execute several special abilities, which are relatively easy to deal with. The Flame Leviathan has four outstanding skills. These are:
- Missile Barrage – fires a barrage of missiles into the air that targets a random player, which deals around 4000 damage.
- Battering Ram – charges to a random target, which will cause them to get knocked forward and receive damage. Players hit will also get a 50% increase in damage received for 20 seconds.
- Flame Vents – releases a pulse of 3000 fire damage every tick for 10 seconds within 50 yards.
- Gathering Speed – gain 5% increased movement speed, which can stack up to 20 times.
Knowing what to do and when to do specific maneuvers will help players clear this fight faster. Here are notable strategies for this boss:
- The boss will chase a random target Engine and will do so for 30 seconds. It will then change the target, which will also last for a similar duration. Pursued tanks should prioritize kiting and running away to avoid taking heavy damage. Those who are not currently being targeted should focus on attacking.
- The Flame Leviathan will gain increased movement speed as it gains stacks of Gathering Speed. To deal with this, you need to inflict Systems Shutdown. To activate this debuff on the boss, you have to launch one of your ranged DPS onto the top of the boss via the Throw Passenger ability. They will then destroy the four Leviathan Defense Turrets. Eliminating these towers will cause several pulses of Overload Circuit, leading to Systems Shutdown. This debuff will stun the boss and give him 50% increased damage taken for 20 seconds.
- Specific skill players should watch out for is Flame Vents, which can deal with a pulsating attack with 4.5k fire damage. Tanks with Electroshock should make they can interrupt this channel as quickly as they can to prevent the part from taking heavy damage.
Another feature in the Flame Leviathan is the existence of the tower. These structures will provide various buffs and abilities to the boss if they are active. Your party can decide how many Towers you will keep. Here are all the existing Buff Turrets in this fight:
- Tower of Life – Flame Leviathan gains a 10% increase in fire damage mitigation and Freya’s Ward, which can summon plants from each corner of the room that can damage vehicles.
- Tower of Flames – Flame Leviathan gains a 50% increase in fire damage and Mimiron’s Inferno, which conjures a moving red beam around the room that drops fire orbs. These spheres can severely damage vehicles and leave a trail of fire when hit.
- Tower of Frost – Flame Leviathan gains Hodir’s Fury, which spawns a light blue pillar that follows random targets that will entomb any vehicles. Frozen tanks will receive 1% damage based on max HP per second and can only be freed with Mortar.
- Tower of Storms – Flame Leviathan gains a 20% increase in physical damage and Thorim’s Hammer, which will conjure a blue pillar that releases pulsating damage within 7 yards.
Depending on how many towers you keep active, you can dictate how hard these fights are and how great your loot is. Here are the different effects based on the number of functioning structures:
- 2 Active Towers – The boss will drop a bonus Runed Orb.
- 3 Active Towers – The Boss will drop an epic bonus recipe.
- 4 Active Towers – The raid will enter hard mode and drop hard-exclusive items.
Ignis the Furnace Master
Ignis doesn’t have a Hard Mode, so there is no particular interaction with any NPC. This boss only has four abilities, but they are tricky because it has many hard-hitting AoE attacks. Here are the most impressive skills of the Furnace Master:
- Scorch – Ignis fires a jet of flame that deals 3770 to 4230 Fire damage every half-second for three seconds on targets within 30 yards in front of him. After the initial attack, the blaze will leave the ground scorched, dealing around 3250 Fire damage to any target within 13 yards. Any Iron Constructs within the affected area will also start becoming molten.
- Flame Jets – Ignis will stomp and cause flames to erupt under each player. These geysers will knock up targets and deal around 9000 Fire damage. Those hit by the attack will also receive 2000 damage over time for six seconds.
- Slag Pot – The boss grabs a random player and puts them inside the slag pot, which will deal 6000 damage every 10 seconds to the one trapped inside. You will gain 100% haste for 10 seconds if you survive this attack.
- Activate Construct – Ignis can activate Iron Constructs that defend him by firing a bolt of magma.
Due to how these attacks work, parties should learn how to navigate through the mechanics to avoid making the fight even harder. In particular, tanks should try to lure away the Scorch ability since it leaves a DoT area that will restrict the party’s movement. Ideally, the whole group should stay in one fixed spot, while those targeted by the skill should bring the cone away from the designated safe area.
Those who are thrown inside the Slag Pot cannot attack, but they can still be healed or heal themselves. Healers should be ready to use potent recovery abilities to ensure that teammates caught in the attack will survive the ordeal. Players should be generous with their heals during this sequence because it has a high chance of killing the affected champion.
For Iron Constructs, you need to make them Brittle because they cannot move under this state and take a 50% increase in critical strike chance. To inflict this debuff, the entity must first become Molten, which players can do by luring them to Scorched grounds. After this, you must aggressively draw the constructs to any water pool to make them Brittle. Champions should note that destroying one of these mobs will cause them to explode, which deals 20k fire damage. Ideally, ranged DPS should be the ones to kill them while melees stay away.
If you have enough DPS, you can ignore these mechanics and focus on going all out on Ignis. The Furnace Master is one of the many instances where the zerg strategy is applicable. This tactic is where you beat the boss by dishing out insane damage in a short amount of time.
Razorscale
This fight can be tedious because there are two stages in the battle that you need to navigate through. In addition, the boss has two phases, which players should remember due to a particular attack. While you must understand Razorscale’s abilities, you must first learn how to bring her down to the ground.
The Air Phase
During this stage, Razorscale will be hovering around the arena and cannot be attacked by most players. You must force her to the ground by shooting her with several harpoons. To do this, you will need to repair 2 (10-man) or four turrets (25-man), enabling you to fire the spears.
This whole phase is similar to a defense fight as you hold out wave after wave of Dark Rune mobs. These dwarves will try to swarm the party to stop the repairs, and your main objective is to hold out for two minutes until all the turrets are prepared. There are three types of Dark Rune enemies, which are the following:
- Dark Rune Guardian – can cast Stormstrike (dispellable)
- Dark Rune Watcher – can cast Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning (both can be interrupted)
- Dark Rune Sentinel – can cast Heroic Strike and Whirlwind (must be eliminated before they can cast the second skill)
In addition to the dwarves, Razorscale will launch several attacks from the air. Since you cannot interrupt or attack her when she does these skills, your only option is to avoid them. Here are all the attacks from the boss:
- Fireballs – projectile attacks that deal 12,000 fire damage. She does this attack every three seconds.
- Devouring Flames – create patches of blue flame on random areas, which can deal 9,000 damage per tick to those near it.
Ground Phase
Once Razoscale has been tethered to the ground, your objective is to deal as much damage as possible to bring her down to 50% HP within 40 seconds. If you fail to do so, she will break free of her constraints and force the party to redo the Air Phase. When you successfully bring her down to half HP, you will transition to the 2nd Phase of the fight.
Razorscale 2nd Phase
Entering this stage will ensure that Razorscale can no longer escape and fly away. For this sequence, you will need to rely on your tanks’ skills, as most of the mechanics will be focused on them. Here are all the abilities during this part:
- Flame Breath – breathes fire in a cone in front of Razorscale, which deals 17500 to 22500 damage.
- Flame Buffet – inflicts debuff on targets where they take 1500 increased fire damage from attacks for one min.
- Wing Buffet – Razorscale flaps her wings, knocking everyone by 35 yards.
- Fuse Armor – debuffs a tank and reduces its armor, attack, and movement speed by 20% for 20 seconds (can stack).
This fight is relatively simple, and the tanks will do most of the heavy lifting. Mainly, the beefiest members of the party should ensure that they maintain the aggro of Razorscale so that her attacks are predictable. When she cast Flame Breath, the tanks should lure the cone away from the party, so it will only affect them.
If you have more than enough DPS, you can burst Razorscale quickly before Fuse Armor stacks. Alternatively, you can have two tanks to swap now and then to mitigate damage received because of the debuff. The threat priority switching is essential because your tank will get killed if he doesn’t have a substitute.
XT-002 Deconstructor
XT is one of the more complex bosses in The Siege of Ulduar wing. There are a long of maneuvering and positionals that you need to get used to, so players can maximize their chances of survival. It is also one of the many enemies that can be challenged in hard mode.
Entering hard mode can be quite a task because you can only do so while engaging with the boss. Every time XT loses 25% of his HP, he will expose his heart to the players, which allows them enough time to destroy it. The boss will enter hard mode when you eliminate this target during the first and second appearances (75% and 50%). If you want to avoid fighting XT at a more challenging state, avoid smashing the heart the first and second time it appears.
Players should note that destroying the heart is not easy because mobs will spawn to protect it. Three types of enemies will appear from the junk piles at each corner of the room. Each of these sums has its abilities and should be dealt with accordingly. Here are all the spawns during Exposed Heart:
- XS-013 Scrapbot – has a small HP and will restore 1% of the XT’s health when they reach him. These bots are the second priority because of their recovery capabilities for the boss.
- XE-321 Boombot – will approach XT and explode (or if they are destroyed), which deals around 18,000 damage. These bots are your main priority because they deal massive damage. Ideally, it would help if you had your ranged DPS players take them down before they reach the area near the party.
- XM-024 Pummeller – will target players and can do cleave damage, knockback attacks, and Trample. Ideally, they should be aggroed by the off-tanks and lured away until all the Scrapbots and Boombots are eliminated.
XT has three abilities in its arsenal that will require players to be careful with their positionals, especially if they are in hard mode. However, these attacks are relatively easy if you challenge the boss in a standard setting. Here are all the skills that XT has:
- Searing Light – targets a random player and attacks them with divine energy, which causes the player and nearby allies to get seared for 9 seconds. This ability deals 3500 damage every tick until the debuff expires.
- Gravity Bomb – selects a target and charges a dark energy attack that will cause an explosion, which will deal damage and pull every nearby ally closer after 9 seconds.
- Tympanic Tantrum – XT will trample and deal 10% damage every 1 for 12 seconds, which will also daze nearby players for the whole duration.
Hard Mode XT-002
Upon activating the higher-difficulty fight, XT will gain several buffs and improved abilities. The boss gains an additional 90% HP (which boosts his health to 47.5m from 25m), and 40% increased damage dealt. These bonuses occur on top of the Heartbreak debuff every time XT’s heart is destroyed.
Players should also note that if they enter hard mode, Exposed Heart will no longer occur every 25%. This means that the mobs will no longer spawn, and the Heartbreak debuff will no longer appear. Aside from gaining extra stats, some of XT’s abilities will also evolve and become more troublesome. Here are the upgraded forms of the attacks:
- Searing Light – will now spawn a mob called Life Spark that deals 10k nature damage and has a Static Charged aura (2000 damage every three seconds). This ad has 350,000 HP, so it is imperative to focus on this first to avoid receiving unnecessary damage.
- Gravity Bomb – will now leave Void Zone after the explosion, which deals 7,500 damage per second for players who stay above them. These DoT areas will remain until the end of the fight, so you need to place them away from the party.
There are a lot of ways to handle the fight with XT. However, there are specific strategies that can help players quickly clear most of the mechanics. Here are some tips for fighting this boss:
- Always have the tank lure XT-002 Deconstructor at the center of either wall and not in front of the stairs.
- Life Spark should be eliminated quickly because they can easily decimate your support line.
- You can deal with DPS as much during the Exposed Heart sequence since your only concern here would be the summoned bots.
