Saha reports to opt-out of Bengali Ranji Trophy campaign, sites some personal reasons behind his withdrawal.
Wriddhiman Saha will rarely be seen playing for Team India. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) specified that if Saha does not get selected in the team for this series, then his international career will terminate on the way.
The management team had conveyed that they wanted to look beyond 37-year-old Wriddhiman. The team management is to focus on the preparation for the future team.
Wriddhiman Saha is one of the best wicketkeepers. Saha has scored 1353 runs in 40 Tests for India at an average of 29.4. These include three centuries and six half-centuries. On the other hand, 104 wickets have been taken by him, which consists of 92 catches and 12 stumpings.
K. S. Bharat can be included as the second wicketkeeper in Saha and Rishabh Pant in the Test series against Sri Lanka. Bharat has played against New Zealand earlier, where he gave a fantastic performance.
According to a BCCI source, Influential people in the team have conveyed to Saha that they want to go ahead and create some fresh backup with Pant.
Saha explained that he would not be picked for the Sri Lanka Test series as it is time for K. S. Bharat to gain experience with the senior team.
K. S. Bharat is yet to debut. But he has impressed everyone in the Test match against New Zealand after Saha’s injury. He has scored 4283 runs in 78 first-class matches. He has played so far with an average of 37.24.
Bharat has also scored nine centuries and 23 half-centuries. At the same time, he has taken 301 wickets, including 270 catches and 31 stumpings.
Wriddhiman Saha has also withdrawn his name from the Ranji Trophy. The selectors did not pick him because he was not available for the selection. He has told the Cricket Association of Bengal President Abhishek Dalmiya and Joint Secretary Snehasish Ganguly that he will not play in Ranji Trophy due to personal reasons.
