Indigo plans to operate 168 flights from the Goa international airport soon
Officials from Indigo confirmed that they would be starting new flights that will take off from the new international airport of Goa.
Speaking about the same, Mr. Peter Elbers, the Chief Executive Officer of Indigo said “we are very excited to announce our largest ever new station launch with new direct connections from the New Goa International Airport in Mopa, North Goa.
It’s momentous for us at IndiGo to have such a massive opening. And, it speaks of our ambition and ability to provide connectivity to our customers and the nation in the best possible way”.
The new international airport of Goa
Mopa International Airport, which is the new international airport of Goa, is an under-construction greenfield airport. It is being built at Mopa in Pernem Taluka, situated in the North Goa district in the state of Goa.
The airport is being developed by GMR Goa International Airport Limited (GGIAL).
The foundation stone for the construction of the Mopa airport was laid by our honorable Prime Minister, Mr. Narendra Modi, in November 2016.
Mopa airport is scheduled to be opened and inaugurated by Mr. Narendra Modi, on December 11, this year.
The commercial operations will start early next year.
Flight operations from Mopa International Airport
12 daily and a total of 168 weekly, new flights, to and from the New Goa International Airport at Mopa in North Goa, starting from January 5, will be the largest ever-new station launched by Indigo. And, will immediately connect the new facility to eight cities across India, as per the officials of Indigo airlines.
Besides improving direct connectivity to various states of India, the launch of the new flight services is also aimed at catering to the increasing demand for flights, from a large number of tourists visiting Goa.
The Dabolim airport of Goa
The Dabolim airport, which is the existing international airport of Goa, will however continue its operation of flights as usual, even after the new international airport comes into operation.
Goa’s Chief Minister, Mr. Pramod Sawant has clarified in his statement, that the operations at Dabolim Airport will continue even after the greenfield international airport at Mopa is commissioned.
The airport at Dabolim will not be shut once the greenfield international airport at Mopa is commissioned, as per Mr. Pramod Sawant’s statement on Thursday.
