In the early hours of Sunday, an accidental blast occurred in West Bengal’s Malda district. Reportedly, two persons identified as Farjan SK and Safikul Islam died and one other was severely injured due to a crude Bomb Blast.
According to Police, the deceased were making bombs in a field near Jesarathtala Balutola, close to the Manikchak police station, when the explosion happened.
Around 2:30 AM, locals told us they heard a huge explosion. When our officers arrived on the scene, we found that 3 persons were injured. The victims were soon transferred to Malda Medical College and Hospital where the doctors declared two of them dead and the third to be in critical condition and undergoing treatment—said the police.
Near the blast site, some basic raw materials for building simple bombs were discovered. An investigation about the source of the enormous amount of explosives is currently being conducted. Furthermore, the objective behind making the bomb has not yet been revealed.
A bomb disposal squad has also been deployed in the area and the search is underway for other persons who might be involved in the explosives manufacturing process.
When asked Locals if they knew anything about the cause of the incident, they claimed that the recent weeks had seen animosity in the region due to land disputes between factions of the ruling TMC.
It could be recalled that there had been a string of targeted bombings in West Bengal that were directed at politicians.
Last year only, In West Bengal’s Bhatpara, BJP MP Arjun Singh’s home was attacked with homemade bombs. Despite the presence of security, three homemade bombs were thrown at his home.
A few months later, in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas area, Firoze Kamal Gazi, also known as Babu Master, an ex-TMC leader who had lately joined the BJP, was hurt when unidentified individuals attacked his car. Crude bombs were thrown at his car while he was traveling to Kolkata. He and his driver both received splinter wounds and were hospitalized after the incident.
