Hollywood legend Tom Cruise is no stranger when it comes to performing death-defying stunts. A real-life daredevil with no fear whatsoever, even at the age of 60. No wonder he gets paid a lot.
From acting in a suit that weighs 130 pounds to jumping off a cliff with a motorcycle (5 days ago), Cruise has done them all without any fear. The Top Gun star has often mesmerized us with his versatile acting and impossible stunts. Let us take a look at the 5 of his best stunts
• Zero gravity stunt- The Mummy
Even though Tom Cruise is mostly known for his Mission Impossible stunts, The Mummy, which was released in 2017 did not fail to entertain its viewers. Annabelle Wallis acted opposite Cruise in that movie.
In the movie, Cruise finds himself stranded in a cargo plane that is crashing from a great height. Normally, actors would opt for a sound stage surrounded by a green screen, but not Cruise.
The scene was shot in an actual NASA plane that was used to train astronauts. The plane had to go up to about 25000 feet to get a feeling that it was in zero gravity. It did a free fall for 22 seconds
The veteran practised 4 times before pulling off the scene.
• Jumping between buildings- Mission Impossible: Fallout
This Tom Cruise stunt will surely give you the chills. Running has been a trademark in all his movies, but this time, a stunt went wrong, which was very rare. This happened while on the set of Fallout.
While jumping from one building to the next, Cruise hit the wall of the second building at an odd angle which led to his ankle being broken. The shooting was called off for a little more than a month and Cruise was told by the doctors that he may not be able to run like that anymore. However, their advice fell on deaf ears as the actor was back on set, running.
• Tom Cruise held his breath for 6 minutes underwater- Mission Impossible: Rogue Nation
The famous Ethan Hunt, played by Cruise, has to dive into an underwater safe to get his hands on a chip that will be important for the completion of his mission.
In this scene, Cruise jumps 120 feet into the safe which not only is filled with water but has a large crane that is rotating around it. Once inside, he holds his breath for a breathtaking 6 minutes.
• Climbing a 2000-foot cliff- Mission Impossible 2
Climbing a 5-foot rocky cliff is scary enough, but The Firm actor dared to climb a whopping 2000-foot cliff with his bare hands and with a safety rope. The then 38-year-old actor also jumped 15 feet from one cliff to another. One could only marvel at what he did.
• Climbing the tallest building in the world, The Burj Khalifa- Mission Impossible- Ghost Protocol
You just cannot escape death while doing death-defying stunts unless your name is Tom Cruise. Perhaps the most defining moment of his career, the 60-year-old scaled the heights of the world’s tallest building.
For this scene, the actor climbed 1700 feet in the air, after which he fell four stories down by descending from the surface of the building.
