In case you are a student who has scored less than 90% in your Class 12 examinations, then your chances of getting admission in popular courses like B.Com (H), Economics (H) and English (H) a Delhi University college especially under the first cutoff list.
The cutoffs for English are usually higher because students from any stream are qualified to join the course.
This year, however, eight colleges had released 100 per cent cutoffs for at least ten courses. The DU officials state that they have to place such high academic thresholds to avoid over admissions.
The reason for this high cutoff can be pointed to the fact that the majority of students scored more than 95 per cent this year. The Class 12 board examinations were not conducted due to the Covid pandemic, so most schools-based students’ marks on their internal assessments.
Admissions under the first cutoff will continue until October 6, and the second cutoff list will be released on October 9. The university will release five cutoff lists, followed by a particular cut off to fill the remaining seats.
Looking at the high cutoffs, many young DU aspirants are crushed that they may not get in despite crossing the 95% threshold. They are left scouring for alternatives at the last minute as they feel that getting into their dream is far from reality now.
An excellent way to deal with this admissions issue would be to conduct an aptitude test like CAT and base a certain amount of the eligibility criteria on the marks scored in the class 12 examination.
Entrance exams are designed to understand the candidate’s knowledge in varied subjects, and it is also a great way of filtering the best of a lot.
