The survey for the entire route has already been completed, and it has been determined to be practical in every way. The project is expected to cost Rs 1,200 crores, of which the states of Kerala and Karnataka will each be responsible for paying half and the federal government for the remaining sum.
It will also take less time and allow more travel time to connect North Kerala with Mysore, Subramanya, and Hassan. It will also boost the tourism industry by connecting Talacauvery, Subramanya, Bekal, and Ranipuram, and it will be good for business and education because many professionals and students from Kerala will have easy access to Bangalore, an IT hub. As it makes it simple to access and exchange commodities between the two states, it will also assist merchants in facilitating their trade and help them generate a solid income. The final sanction from the railroad authorities is still awaited for the projected railway line that would run through Kaniyuru from the Kanhangad railway station to Bangalore.
A unique train service between Kanhangad and Bangalore will be a huge push for the station if it is realised, and this will also hasten the growth of the city and the broader North Malabar region.
Following the meeting with Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday, Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai declared that he had rejected three recommendations from the Kerala administration.
At a bilateral meeting on Sunday, Vijayan requested permission for the Kanjangad – Panathur – Kaniyur Railway line. In Karnataka, this will cover 45 km, and in Kerala, 31 km. Indian Railways initially opposed the proposal, but later approved it provided that both states concur.
In a case that was referred by the courts, the Karnataka Lokayukta police have filed a FIR under the Prevention of Corruption Act-1988 and various sections of the Indian Penal Code for extortion and cheating against former Karnataka CM and BJP parliamentary board member B S Yediyurappa and several members of his family.

The proposed Kanjangad-Kaniyur (90 km) traffic and engineering survey was finished last week. The state government must now provide a guarantee on the cost of construction before the proposed route, which is anticipated to link North Kerala closer to Bangalore and Mysore, can be built.
The 40-kilometer Kanjangad-Kaniyur segment of the long-delayed K-anjangad-Kaniyur railway, which runs through Kerala, while the remaining 76 kilometres are in Karnataka. If the line is built, Bangalore would only be 348 kilometres distant from Kanjangad, taking only six hours to get there, according to the line’s proponents. The current Kanjangad-Bangalore route, through Palakkad or Mangalore, is more than 650 kilometres and takes a gruelling 12 hours to complete.
Noting that the prior study had been completed in 2009, Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin informed the ministers that former railway minister D V Sadananda Gowda had, in his first railway budget, ordered a new survey on the entire line. Nalin noted that the railways themselves have recognised the line as being very viable and cost-effective. He also stated that it will support the professional and trading communities, as well as boost tourist and pilgrimage sites.
The Keralites living in Belthangady and Shiradi will profit if the railway line is introduced. Also benefited would be the pilgrims who travel to Subrahmanya, Dharmasthala, and Talacauvery. The route’s picturesque beauty can also be appreciated.
Southern Railway representatives have already been to the location and located the path. After conducting a traffic study, Southern Railways will file its petition for approval to the Railway Board. If the 40-km Kanhangad-Panathur railway line is built, it can be extended to either Kaniyur on the Mangalore-Hassan railway line or Subrahmanya road.
