The UAE would provide $100 billion in emergency assistance to Kyiv to participate in the country’s reconstruction while the war with Moscow continues.
United Arab Emirates (UAE) declared on October 18, 2022, that it would provide $100 hundreds of million dollars in emergency assistance to Kyiv to participate in the country’s reconstruction while the war with Moscow continues.
The Wam News Service, an Arabian News Agency, reports that the decision was made following a directive from the UAE President, Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The UAE will be helping Kyiv up to this point. Earlier, it also previously supplied money to Ukrainians seeking sanctuary in Poland and Bulgaria at the beginning of the conflict.
As per the United Nations reports, about 8 million people left Kyiv and were dispersed across Europe.
Telephonic Conversation with Ukrainian President Voldymor Zelenskyy
Through a telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, United Arab Emirates President Sheikh Mohammed made it clear that he would be offering “humanitarian and economic help and support to reduce the consequences of the conflict with Russia.”
Earlier, Sheikh Mohammed had also been very vocal about trying to help Ukrainian civilians affected by the ongoing fighting. Along with discussing humanitarian supplies, Sheikh Mohamed also discussed a “peaceful” end to the conflict between Russia and Ukraine with Russian President Vladimir Putin. According to official media reports, Mohammed reportedly requested that Ukraine and Russia establish a “middle ground” during the meeting of the two international leaders in Strelna.
“A political agreement can be achieved that will promote international stability and peace by engaging in communication, negotiation, and diplomatic channels,” the UAE state news agency stated.
The Aid of the European Union
The government of Ukraine also received $1.96 million from the European Union as a “cash resource to help pay for critical budgetary obligations,” according to a Telegram post by Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.
UAE Response
In response to the Ukraine situation, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan has approved the distribution of additional humanitarian aid totaling $100 million to Ukrainian citizens. Reem bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, emphasized that the additional aid is a result of the UAE’s ongoing efforts to lessen the humanitarian impact of the Ukraine crisis as well as His Highness Sheikh Mohamed’s belief in the value of solidarity in times of war and conflict.
Al Hashimy further mentioned that the UAE has sent planes bringing aid to Ukrainian refugees in Belarus and Romania in response to the immediate United Nations’ plea and the UAE has offered similar relief help to Ukrainian citizens affected by the crisis in recent months.
