“It’s alright to be average” last message of Group Captain Varun Singh to the youth
The Lone survivor of Mi 17 crash Group Captain Varun Singh wrote “It’s ok to be mediocre” in a letter he wrote to his school addressing the students of the school after he was awarded Shaurya Chakra

“It is ok to be mediocre. Not everyone will excel at school, and not everyone will be able to score in the 90s. Find your calling and do your best. Never lose hope”; these were the inspiring words of late Group Captain Varun Singh addressing the student of the Army Public School Chandi Mandir, he passed out from.
Group Captain Varun Singh the lone survivor of Mi 17 crash in which nation lost its most high-ranking officers succumbed to his injuries and burns that he received in the crash. Varun was awarded the Shaurya Chakra in 2020 when he was flying a Tejas which suddenly met with some technical issues and was about to crash, Varun without thinking about his life took the crashing jet away from urban settlements and crashed it in barren land to minimize casualties and he even managed to eject at the right time.
Varun was the Son of Colonel Krishna Pratap Singh and his younger brother is currently serving in Navy as an officer, patriotism was in his genetics.
Varun Singh tried to motivate the students of his school , Army Public School Chandi Mandir by telling them it’s amazing if they score above 90s and not get disheartened even after not scoring good marks , a student needs to find his/her calling and work hard to achieve ; he even added being average in school doesn’t mean that a student will always be mediocre in life one can be good at sports , literature, graphic designing , music or art , one must be dedicated to his/her goals and should put every effort to fulfill his/her goals ; he summed up the letter by telling his own story how he used to be a mediocre student at school who was average in both studies and sports but had passion for planes and jets and managed to achieve his goal of serving the nation and joining the air force .
After passing out from Army Public School Chandi mandir Group Captain Varun was selected in NDA and went on to join the prestigious Air force academy and became a pilot in the batch of Abhinandan Varthaman .
Group Captain Varun was onboard the Mi 17 which crashed in Kunnur he was flying as a liaison officer , his body received 95% burns in the crash but he still somehow survived the crash and was accompanied by General Rawat, his wife Madhulika Rawat , Brigadier Lakhwinder Singh Lidder , Lt Col Harjinder Singh, Naiks Gursewak Singh and Jitendra Kumar , Havildar Satpal , Lance Naik Vivek Kumar, Junior Warrant Officer Pradeep, Wing Commander P S Chouhan, Junior Wr Officer Rana Pratap Das, L Naik B Sai Teja and Squad Leader Kuldip Singh ; his body received 95% burns in the crash and he was the lone survivor of the cash
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh and Home Minister Amit Shah paid condolences after the demise of Group Captain Varun Singh.
Varun Singh is now survived by his wife Uma Singh, son Praduman Singh and daughter Aradhya Singh.
