670,000 study permits, 700,000 work permits and 260,000 visitor visas processed by Canada’s Immigration Department.
Canada processed 4.8 million immigration applications till the end of November this year. It is nearly twice the 2.5 million immigration applications which were processed during the same period last year, according to the Immigration Department.
There has been progress in reducing the backlogs of applications this year, said Sean Fraser-Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship of Canada.
IRCC (Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada) has reduced its overall inventory by nearly half a million applications, since August. The bar is being set up high for processing.
Improved Immigration Process
The whole process has been improved by IRCC to ensure better functioning and strengthening of the immigration system. Now the applications have been digitised, new employees are hired and trained, and all the processes are streamlined to ensure increased efficiency. During all this IRCC also keeps a check on the safety and security of its Canadian citizens. The department is giving its best to continue to remain on track so that it meets all the goals to process 80 per cent of the new applications. IRCC is also keeping in mind all the service standards for programs. It continues to make decisive steps to improve the processing system. All this is done to reduce the waiting time for the clients.
“Our government has reduced its pandemic backlogs by nearly half a million, while also processing a record- breaking number of immigration applications this year,” said the minister of IRCC.
Study and Work Permits
Canada is building up a new record for the process of study permits. Canada has processed over 670,000 study permits by the end of November, this year. It is comparatively more than 500,000 study permits during the same period last year. Now, most of the new study permits are being processed by IRCC within the 60-day service standard.
The processing of work permits has also increased from 223,000 during the same period in 2019 (before the pandemic) to 700,000 by November 30, this year.
Visitor Visas and Permanent Residents
Canada is reducing its backlogs of the visitor visas continuously on a monthly basis. Particularly in November, over 260,000 visitor visas were processed by IRCC, which is more than 180,000 applications, which were processed at the same time in 2019. IRCC is now processing more visitor visa applications in comparison to the ones it did before the pandemic. All this is being done to respond more quickly to the growing number of people who want to visit Canada.
Canada surpassed its previous record by allowing 405,000 new permanent residents in 2021 and now the country remains on track to reach its target of more than 431,000 new permanent residents
