Ranveer Singh seems to be going through a difficult period in his career. The actor had consecutive failures with his Jayeshbhai Jordaar in ’83 and his YRF. He played a double role in Rohit Shetty’s circus and was confident in impressing the audience. Audiences had high expectations, too, but if you’re going by reviews, the movie blacked out. Starring Ranveer Singh and Varun Sharma in dual roles, Rohit Shetty’s Cirkus hasn’t clicked with the crowds and is almost game over at the box office. Pre-sales remain flat for his third day.
Cirkus Box Office Day 3
Trading reports suggest that the third day’s figure is again low as Ranveer Singh-Rohit Shetty’s film fetched around Rs 7.3 crore. Films of this genre have not had much traction in terms of trends due to their fixed audiences. The latest, with cameos from Ranveer Singh, Jacqueline Fernandez, Pooja Hegde, and Deepika Padukone, got off to a rocky start. The film met great expectations but failed to make it to the box office.
Bollywood Hungama reported that Cirkus posted a marginal growth of around 15% on Sunday. Since it was Christmas, the expectations for the film were quite high. The industry also hoped that the collaboration between Rohit Shetty and Ranveer Singh would help theaters celebrate with packed counters again.
Well, the Cirkus collection was also a disappointment for Christmas. The film saw a fairly flat collection as large centers and multiplexes showed no growth.
Ranveer Singh’s films failed to perform in Maharashtra, Gujarat, CI, and Rajasthan, and collections in larger centers were similarly poor. It was not a big-budget film, but the expectations for the Cirkus were high. According to Box Office India, “The film failed to find an audience in Mumbai as well, but Maharashtra is probably a better performer than India as a whole, but it’s still very boring.”
Trading reports suggest that the figure is again low on the third day as the film earned around 73 billion rupees. Movies in this genre are less popular in terms of trends due to their fixed audience. Meanwhile, the circus faces stiff competition from Avatar. The Way Of Water did very well at the Indian box office.
About the Cirkus
Cirkus, starring Ranveer Singh and Varun Sharma, is based on William Shakespeare’s classic play, The Comedy of Errors. It hit screens on December 23rd. Filmmaker Rohit Shetty recently spoke out about Cirkus, saying that he makes films to entertain audiences and that his latest directorial film is a step in the same direction. Shetty is best known for action comedies such as the Golmar series and All the Best.
He said he is confident audiences will love his latest releases, including action dramas like Fun Begins and his Singham series. Cirkus is set to be Rohit Shetty’s first flop in the last 14 hours. His last disaster appearance at the box office was in 2008.
The box office as well as the Cirkus failed to impress the critics. Shubhra Gupta in his review for The Indian Express called the film “blah” and wrote:” and rescued it from the muddy area. But for a movie that offers two Ranveers for the price of one, Circus manages surprisingly well, especially when one is given an electricity-controlling superpower.
Speeding up the Livewire Ranveer with “bijli ke jhatke” is something very special and should evoke nonstop supreme hilarity, Shetty ishtyle. But the gag doesn’t land. Ranveer’s wife, Deepika Padukone, has caused controversy by releasing the song ‘Besharm Rang’ from her upcoming film ‘Pattern’. Right-wing Hindu groups in India have vowed to boycott the film, saying the song is an insult to Hinduism.
